60 YEARS OF FAITH. 20 YEARS ON SUTTER AVENUE.

Sixty years ago, a small but faithful group of believers, led by the late Bishop Robert I. and Mother Mable L. Thomas, stepped out on faith and planted a ministry in Corona, New York.

It started in a humble storefront on Northern Boulevard. From there, through prayer, sacrifice, and a deep conviction that God could do the impossible, the ministry grew to its first church building on 34th Avenue.

Then, in 2007, that same faith and vision led the church to a new home in South Ozone Park. Greater Refuge Church of Christ was reestablished on Sutter Avenue, where for the past 20 years the church has continued to grow, serve, impact the community, and carry the legacy forward.

In 2027, we celebrate 60 years of ministry and 20 years on Sutter Avenue.

We remember where God brought us from. We celebrate where we are today. And we move forward to the Next Level with confidence because God Is Up to Something.

We are gearing up for our annual Women's Empowerment Month at Greater Refuge Church of Christ, and this year, we’re making room for a powerful month of worship, encouragement, and sisterhood.

Under the theme “Rooted to Abound," we’re reminded that when we are rooted in God, we can continue to grow, flourish, and abound in hope.

GRCC praised in our sneakers today on Sneaker Sunday. Thank God for the word Minister Sean brought forth. It was an on-time word from the Lord. “Shut the Door,” He challenged us to examine the doors we have left open to distraction, temptation, insecurity, and the things God has called us to leave behind.

Genesis 4:7 reminds us that sin is always looking for an opportunity to gain access. But we have a responsibility to exercise dominion.

Some doors don’t need to be managed.
Some doors don’t need to be monitored.
Some doors need to be shut.

What are you still allowing access to that God has called you to overcome?

It’s time to stop playing with what almost destroyed you. It’s time to walk in obedience, close the door, and move forward in God.
