Welcome to October OLCA familes. Though far from each other, family is always in each others hearts.

This initial list of closing Academies may not affect our dispersed families in other Catholic School Homes, but the second level watch list should be noted. Continue to keep safe and live up to the motto "From Many We Are One".

On Oct. 5, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced all New York City schools within nine โ€œhot zoneโ€ ZIP codes will physically close and pivot to remote learning on Oct. 6. This comes after New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a proposal on Oct. 4 to shut down schools and non-essential businesses with...

Wishing a wonderful first day of in person instruction to our OLCA families and Staff that have transitioned to other Diocese of Brooklyn Schools. OLCA families are out to make their marks at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Immaculate Conception Catholic Academy, Our Lady of Grace, St Clare's and many more.

Good luck for a safe and productive 2020-2021 school year never forgetting the OLCA Motto "From Many We Are One".

Brother Ralph has been a longtime stalwart of Catholic Education especially in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens. As deputy Superintendent he served for many years as a calm voice of reason. Unfortunately health issues minimized his involvement this year when his expertise would have been sorely needed. His work here is now done. Rest In Peace Brother Ralph.

By Emily Drooby On August 18, family and friends said a final goodbye to Brother Ralph J. Darmento, F.S.C., an indispensable educator โ€ฆ

Although the full letter not published, see a letter to the Editor in this week's Tablet speaking the the impact of Closing OLCA.

"The decision to close six schools has students, parents, and staff equally hurt, fearful, and angry. The closures are a mental toll on students already struggling to understand a pandemic. It is a stress-inducing situation for parents who are scared out of their wits with the changing guidelines for reopening schools, now to be further burdened with the need to deal with that uncertainty in unfamiliar buildings, with unfamiliar staff and students. It is an absolutely panic-inducing situation for teachers and administrative staff who are forced to compete with well over a hundred other teachers in a similar situation for positions in an already recessed economy."
