Ministry at Upper Room Assembly may look like the traditional church, but all that you see has as its foundation, in Connection Groups. We offer many opportunities for your participation in our church family. Couples, men, women, children, youth and seniors will find that there is a place for them to receive and offer Christian love. Discipleship is the method Jesus gave for us to grow and for accountability. Connection Groups offer the ideal place for discipleship.

Greetings Family of God,

Thank you so much for sharing love with Evangelist Fred Felton, III last Sunday. He shared from his heart, and I agree with everything he shared. I had a delightful time with him after the service practicing hospitality. I would recommend you do likewise. I heard a report this week that hospitality has declined in our culture.

Next Sunday is a very important event as we present to you what the deacons believe is a great path forward for Upper Room. In my daily Bible reading plan I just finished the Book of Isaiah, and I read these great verses I believe apply to our future. Isaiah 43:18-19, “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth. Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” What a great prophetic promise for the future!

God is the business of doing new things. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Let us be in prayer for the leading of the Holy Spirit as we consider the new thing God has promised.

Greetings Family of God,

We welcome once again our wonderful friend and partner, Fred Felton 111. I call him “my brother from another mother.” He loves all of you very much.

There is always something new to learn and new ways to apply spiritual growth. Such is the case with the aurora borealis. We learn they emit radio waves. There is a deep spiritual principle in Our Daily Bread devotional. I pray it will speak to you as it does to me.

“The Arctic lights of the aurora borealis (the northern lights) are well known for their shimmering green and violet light, but did you know they also emit low frequency electromagnetic (radio) waves? Special devices can convert these natural radio signals into audible whooshing and crackling noises. However, to record these otherwise inaudible vibrations of electric and magnetic energy, you must travel at least 4 miles away from human sources of sound or electricity that could interfere with the radio receivers.

It is also sometimes necessary to leave the noise of our lives to hear God’s voice. Mark’s gospel describes Jesus waking up before dawn and finding a ‘solitary’ place to pray (1:35). He’d stayed up late the night before, healing and freeing people from demons (vs. 21-32). The next morning, Jesus took time to find quiet before God, despite the fact the people were looking for Him. Jesus’ example shows us the value He placed on spending time alone in prayer.” Jennifer Benson Schulot – ODB.

Greetings Family of God,

Welcome to our special service today. I am glad you are here.

Thanks to those who were able to share in Our Food For Cuba offering. You still have opportunity to do that as the needs have not changed. I am giving you something different today.

Pastor Ezra Jin of Beijing Zion Church was confined to a squalid cell in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi and remembered the sign of Jonah. “I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple,” were the words the prophet prayed from the belly of the fish. Jin said they were also the words the Lord gave him last October on the first day of his imprisonment.

On October 10th, the police surrounded Jin’s home and took him into custody. He was locked up with dozens of other prisoners in an overcrowded, roughly 1,000-square-foot cell. They could stand only after raising a hand to request permission. Nights were spent in fitful sleep on floor mats or on one large platform bed they shared.

Jin said the Psalms, the Pauline epistles and the first epistle of Peter were especially encouraging as he wrestled with the pain of his persecution. He experienced the Lord’s presence many times in prison, not because of the magnitude of his own faith and strength, but because of His promise and the grace He bestowed through suffering. He was removed from his cell and taken to the airport and flown to LA to be with his family. He now resides in Washington, D.C., but his heart is for those who are still imprisoned.

It is the Word of God which sustains people in times of suffering and trials and that is why it is so important for you to enrich your soul with the Word and have portions memorized as you never know when they will be needed.

Greetings Family of God and Welcome to Our Service Today. I know you will experience special joy and blessings in your life.

Many of you remember the account of “Captain Sully” when he landed his airplane in the New York Hudson River. Recently I saw in a news item that he is not well and is experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Because of that news item I was inspired by the devotional about him in our Daily Bread.

“The movie Sully depicts the heroic landing of a stalled passenger plane on New York’s Hudson River. As Captain “Sully” strode off the rescue ferry, he told an official, “I need to know who’s hurt and how badly and I need a count. One hundred fifty-five. That’s my number. That’s passengers and crew.” The man said, “Okay. How about you?” Sully replied, “I’ll answer that question when we’ve counted to one hundred fifty-five.”

Jesus is interested in a count too. He’s the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one lost sheep. When He finds it, He “is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off” (Matthew 18:13).

Do you know any lost sheep? Anyone who seems particularly unreachable? Pray for them. Seek to share the love of Jesus with them. Don’t give up until they’re in the fold.

Sully badgered anyone who would listen, “I need a count. We’ve got to have a count.” At long last, an official entered the hospital room where Sully was being examined. He smiled, “Got a count. One hundred fifty-five.”
