In January 2025, our church said YES to an ambitious goal: raise $40,000 in two years to sponsor an entire Tiny Home through Cass Community Social Services in Detroit.
But we were never just raising money to build a house.
We were helping create a fresh start. A safe place to land. A community. An opportunity for someone to build stability and independence—and ultimately call that house her own.
And our church, our community and our friends SHOWED UP.
There wasn’t one fundraiser or one donation that made this happen. It was an entire congregation coming together—children, youth, adults, friends and community members. We held talent auctions, paint parties, breakfasts, Tigers outings, craft shows, T-shirt sales, a women’s retreat, and yes…even a Kentucky Derby party with pool noodle horses. 😂
Little by little, generosity became something much bigger.
We reached our $40,000 goal nearly EIGHT MONTHS ahead of schedule—and then we kept going.
Through additional donations and an Amazon Wish List, we completely furnished the home—from furniture and kitchen essentials to food in the cupboards—so that when its new resident walked through the door, she wasn’t simply walking into a house. She was walking into her HOME.
And this is the moment that made every fundraiser, every meeting, every donation and every hour of work worth it. ❤️
I am incredibly grateful to everyone who gave, volunteered, attended an event, purchased something, shared an idea, prayed for this project or supported it in any way.
Together, we didn’t just help build a Tiny Home. We turned generosity into hope. And I can’t think of a better reminder of what can happen when God’s people come together with a common purpose:
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
— Matthew 25:40
THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETE! ❤️🏡
And now in Detroit, because so many people chose to say yes, a woman now has a beautiful place to call home.
Thank you.
