The Bible teaches that sin should be confronted in the proper way, it does not present a believer’s ministry as one of publicly exposing people’s failures. Instead, the emphasis is on restoring, reconciling, speaking the truth in love, and protecting one another whenever possible.
So let’s take about this subject, we all need to look at it through the lens of The Bible
For instance…
Galatians 6:1
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
Now, Notice the ministry is restoration, not exposure.
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
“…God…hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation… and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”
Paul says our ministry is reconciliation—bringing people back to God—not making a public display of their failures.
1 Peter 4:8
“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
This doesn’t mean covering up unrepentant sin that needs to be addressed, but it does mean love does not delight in exposing people unnecessarily.
Proverbs 17:9
“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.”
A godly person seeks healing rather than spreading another person’s faults.
Matthew 18:15-17
Jesus instructed that if a brother sins against you, go to him privately first. Public exposure is not the first step. The process begins with private correction and only expands if there is persistent refusal to repent.
Ephesians 4:29
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying…”
Our words should build up, not tear down.
What about “expose the works of darkness”?
Some point to Ephesians 5:11:
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Paul’s emphasis is on exposing works of darkness—sinful practices and evil—not making it our mission to publicly expose individuals. Even when individuals must be confronted (such as in 1 Corinthians 5 or when Paul rebuked Peter in Galatians 2), it was for the protection of the church and the restoration of truth, not for humiliation or personal criticism.
A good biblical principle is this:
The Church’s ministry is not to expose people—it is to exalt Christ, proclaim truth, restore the fallen, reconcile sinners to God, and only confront sin in the biblical manner when necessary.
So my point is, or rather, let me summarize this….
“Our calling is not to build a platform by exposing people. Our calling is to build the Kingdom by exalting Christ. When sin must be confronted, Scripture commands us to do it with truth, humility, love, and a heart for restoration—not for shame or spectacle.”
