Today was a very special day at Redeemer! We welcomed Fred into our church family as we celebrated his holy Baptism. May the people of Redeemer be a blessing to Fred and his faith continue to flourish in our church! God bless Fred!

Sunday, September 6, 20 26
15th Sunday after Pentecost.

Conflict is a part of relationships and life in community. Jesus’ words in today’s gospel are often used in situations having to do with church discipline. The prophet Ezekiel tells of warning the wicked to turn from their ways, and Paul reminds us that love is the fulfilling of the law. We gather in the name of Christ, assured that he is present among us with gifts of peace and reconciliation.

Prayer of the Day
Oh Lord God, enliven and preserve your church with your perpetual mercy. Without your help, we immortals will fail; remove far from us everything that is harmful, and lead us toward all that gives life and salvation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. 

First Reading. Ezekiel 33:7–11
God appointed Ezekiel as a sentinel for the House of Israel. Ezekiel must faithfully convey God‘s warning to the people. Remarkably, God, who is about to attach Jerusalem, gives us us a warning with the hope that repentance will make the attack unnecessary. 

Psalm 119: 33–40
I desire the path of your Commandments…

Second Reading. Romans, 13:8–14
The obligation of Christians is to love one another, and so fulfill the heart and goal of the law. Close make the person as we “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” and live today in light of the future God has in store for us.

Gospel. Matthew 18:15–20
Jesus offers practical advice to his disciples on how individuals and the church as a whole should go about restoring relationship relationships when one member has sent against another

14th Sunday after Pentecost.

The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the incurable wound of his suffering yet finds in God‘s words the delight of his heart. When Peter doesn’t grasp Jesus’ words about suffering, Jesus tells the disciples they will find their lives in losing them. Such sacrificial love is described by Paul when he urges us to associate with the lowly and not repay Evil with evil. In worship we gather as a community that we might offer ourselves for the sake of our suffering world.

First Reading. Jeremiah 15:15–21.
Jeremiah‘s delight in the word of the Lord is contradicted by the heaviness of God‘s hand upon him, and God‘s seeming unfaithfulness. God‘s tough love to Jeremiah says that if he repents, he will be allowed to continue in his strenuous ministry. Jeremiah is strengthened by the simple words, “ I am with you.”

Psalm 26:1–8
Your love is before my eyes; I have walked faithfully, faithfully with you…..

Second Reading. Romans, 12: 9–21
Paul presents benchmarks for faithful relationships with Christians and non-Christians. Love is the unflagging standard of our behavior. When we encounter evil, we do not resort to the tactics, but seek to overcome it with good. While Christians cannot control the actions and attitudes of others, we seek to live at peace with all people.

Gospel. Matthew 16:21–28.
After Peter confesses that Jesus is “ the Messiah, the Son of the living God”, Jesus reveals the ultimate purpose of his ministry. These words prove hard to accept, even for a disciple whom Jesus has called a “rock”.

Gods Work, Our Hands
Today after worship, we were busy packing up the last of our school supplies for Echo School. This Thrivent/Redeemer Project was made possible by all the people of Redeemer and the Thrivent Action Team. We hope these supplies are a blessing to the students and staff at Echo School. We hope they have a wonderful and successful school year!

Today we celebrated the 11th Sunday after Pentecost.

 Elijah finds the presence of God, not in earthquake, wind, or fire, but in the sound of sheer silence. When the disciples face a great storm on the sea, they cry out with fear. Jesus says: “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” Amid the storms of life, we gather to seek the calm presence of Christ that soothes our fears. In comforting words of scripture, and in the refreshing bread and cup of the Eucharist, God grants us peace, and sends us forth to be a sign of God‘s presence to others. 

Prayer of the Day
Oh God, our defender, storms rage around and within us, and cause us to be afraid. Rescue your people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preserve us in the faith of your son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. 

First Reading. 1 Kings 19:9–18.
And Mount Horeb, where God has appeared to Moses, with typical signs of God‘s presence – earthquake, wind, and fire – Elijah now experienced God in “ sheer silence.” God assured Elijah that he is not the only faithful believer. Seven thousand Israelites are still loyal. God instructed Elijah to anoint two men as kings and two anoint Elisha as his own successor. 

Psalm 85:8–13
I will listen to what the Lord God is saying…

Second Reading. Romans: 10:5–15
A right relationship with God is not something we achieve by heroic efforts. It is a gift received in the proclamation whose content is Jesus Christ. This proclaimed word creates our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Hence Christian proclamation is an indispensable component of God‘s saving actions. 

Gospel. Matthew 14:22–33
Matthews gospel typically portrays Jesus disciples as people of “ little Faith,” who failed despite their best intentions. In this story, Matthew shows how Jesus comes to the disciples when they are in trouble and sustains them in their time of fear and doubt.

Prayer of the Day
Beloved and sovereign, God, through the death and resurrection of your Son you bring us into your kingdom of justice and mercy. By your Spirit, give us your wisdom, that we may treasure the life that comes from Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen

First Reading 1 Kings 3:5–12
Because Solomon did not ask for long life, riches, or the defeat of his enemies, God gave him what he asked for: wisdom to govern the people well.

Psalm. 119: 129-136
When your word is opened, it gives light and understanding.

Second Reading Romans, 8:26–39
These words celebrate the depths of God‘s actions for us. Through Christ’s death for us and the activity of the Spirit praying for us, we are fused to God‘s love poured out in Jesus Christ. Nothing, not even death itself, is able to separate us from such incredible divine love.

Gospel. Matthew 13:31–33, 44–52.
Throughout Matthew‘s gospel, Jesus and his disciples proclaimed the good news that “the kingdom of heaven is near!” here, Jesus offers several brief parables that explore the implications of this announcement for people’s lives.
