First Reformed Church of South Holland, IL is a group of Christians seeking to grow together in the grace of Christ. You have a story to tell as well.

You know how the story goes - the church starts shrinking a little at a time. Soon it divides itself even farther between traditional and contemporary services thinking worship style is the problem. Or, it sells the building and heads to the burbs thinking location is the problem. Or, it does nothing, figuring "the last one out will turn off the lights", because it is convinced culture is the prob

lem. Our story is a little different, and it goes something like this:

163 years is a long time, but that's how long we've been telling the story of Jesus in South Holland, Illinois. From farmers and bankers, to single-parent moms and laid off linesmen, we've all come from different walks of life and tell different stories. For some of us, we came to First Reformed Church as infants and can trace our roots back to the mid 1800s. For others, we came to be a part of a community where black and white and young and old and rich and not so rich can enact a slice of heaven together. And still for others, we came to hear the story of the risen Jesus sung and prayed and preached. The chapter of the story we're writing today is one of revival. We're writing a story that brings the richest hymns of the 19th century alongside the robust soul of contemporary worship songs. We're writing a story where the setting has been and will continue to be 15924 South Park Avenue in our beautifully diverse community of South Holland. And we're writing this story convinced that our best days are not in our rearview mirror, but lie just ahead. And what underlines our story is the grace of Christ. We tell and re-tell the story of a 1st century carpenter's son named Jesus who came to die on a cross to save us from our sins. Maybe it's a story of redemption, or a story of loss, or a story of hope. Whatever story you're telling, we'd love to hear it and fit that story into the greater story of Jesus who is right now making all things new. We look forward to growing together in the grace of Christ with you.

This service is a beautiful Christmas season tradition filled with beautiful Christmas music ( interspersed with readings from the Old and New Testaments.

You won't want to miss this beautiful opportunity to celebrate Christ's advent and birth!

One week from today! Join us for a special evening of beloved Advent and Christmas music, Scripture readings, and joyful singing in the sanctuary of our beloved church. The stage is set and the sounds are ready, all we need is you!

A short time of fellowship will follow the concert in our Fellowship Hall. Visit us downstairs for Christmas cookies and cider and say hello to a friendly face or two!

Join us tomorrow evening for our annual Thanksgiving Eve worship service! This service is always a great way to prepare our minds and hearts for the celebration of Thanksgiving. Come join us as we cultivate gratitude, hear from God's Word, and sing hymns of thanksgiving to our generous God.

As is our tradition on Thankgiving Eve, we will be collecting non-perishable items for our food pantry during our service. Deacons and some of our middle and high schoolers will be on hand to carry heavy bags!

This past Saturday, over 40 members of our church and of the Oasis ministry gathered on our campus and participated in our annual Serve Saturday! In just a few hours on a Saturday morning, we:
.. distributed 65 turkeys and Thanksgiving food to neighbors both in our community and beyond.. hand wrote over 100 cards for our church family and partnering families in the Chicagoland Prison Outreach Angels of Hope program.. raked two nearby houses and cleared out 20+ bags of leaves .. cleaned and organized two major closets here at church, helping to get ready for the Advent season.. organized 1000+ bags at Suburban Access Outreach as they prepare to feed families for Thanksgiving

🍬 Treats and goodies for kids of all ages

🎭 Costumes (family-friendly, please!)

This event is free and open to the community: come enjoy some fall fun, meet friendly faces, and make great memories together!

On Friday, July 4th, join us for the Village of South Holland's annual "Prayer at the Gates" event. Churches from South Holland meet at every "gate" into our community to cover our Village, our nation, and our world in prayer. It's a great way to start out your holiday!

Join us from 8:00-8:30am in the parking lot at the southwest corner of 154th Street and South Park Avenue or feel free to pray with any of the churches of the South Holland Ministerial Association at the locations listed on the flyer.

Our Free Clothing Closet (in partnership with Open Access) will be open this Thursday (June 26) from 4:00-6:00pm. We have clothing for all ages, new and gently-used shoes, and select toiletries and feminine products, all provided free for our community! Like and share this post to spread the word.
