You might remember that our corner sign needed some help… so we peeled the rotting stickers, John Grib flipped it around so the corner-facing side was fresh, we lowered it 18 inches, Ellen Leins cleaned it up a bit, then she sanded and primed the church-facing side and got to work with a few of our Epiphany kids.

Monday, the crew signed the finished product: a cross, our iconic sunset, and a rainbow of colors radiating out from its center. Next up: fresh landscaping around the sign’s base.

A huge thanks to John and Ellen for their work all over our church!

"We have four gospels, we have two Testaments, we have two thousand years of tradition; they all let us know what God promises us. We are promised that love is the way, that happiness and joy come from giving of ourselves, not hoarding for ourselves, not buying endlessly more for ourselves... We know who is truly rich in this life, and it is not the millionaires, billionaires, or trillionaires."

A Pastoral Announcement - the Passing of Rosemary Thurber

Dear friends in Christ,

I'm writing today to let you know that Rosie Thurber has died. Her children, Greg and Sara, were at her bedside along with a few staff members at Laurel Oaks when she peacefully passed around 11:00 Monday morning.

This news will not come as a surprise to everyone, as many have been aware of Rosie’s decline in recent weeks. Sara was in church last Sunday, and she discussed her mom’s health openly with several of us. That does not make this passing any less difficult. Rosie has been a pillar of our church for decades and a good friend, always ready with her quick wit and a wry smile, even through our final times together this spring. Her presence at Epiphany and in the community will be deeply missed.

As of now, the family is still deciding how best to remember her. Those decisions may take some time, as they often do. For now, I ask that everyone respect their privacy and respect any time they need to take to weigh the decisions they have in front of them. Our church - Rosie’s church - will be ready for whatever they ask of us whenever they ask us to be there for them.

Please do keep Sara, Greg, and Rosie’s entire family in your prayers this week, as well as each other, all of us at Epiphany who knew and loved her. And as always, if you need someone to talk to about Rosie or her death, my phone number is listed below. Please do not mourn alone.

May we all rest and take comfort in the peace and love of Christ,
John+

"As Bishop Curry famously said, 'If it's not about love, it's not about God.' We do know what road to walk, we know what leader to follow... we know what it is to be truly Christian, even if there are so many voices saying something else. We know to follow Christ is to walk in and be known by love."

It’s summer in South Haven, and along with our town, the church property is coming to life again. Today, Epiphany’s landscaping team and staff began our summer grounds spruce up: new flowers, new (and refreshed!) signs, new banners, a pet remembrance garden, and more coming soon. 🙏

"The God of all creation, the God of our creation narrative, is one who is active in our world and in our lives, who loves us enough to gift us life, to give us a bountiful creation to tend and care for and love. We see what love looks like in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and we have that love empowering us through the Holy Spirit."

A few saints from our Gather & Grow group finished our “Braiding Sweetgrass” book discussion this month with a walk on the Kal-Haven Trail. Our collected one-word descriptions of this beautiful morning: peace, serenity, beauty, joy, and gratefulness.

"We need not buy more, do more, travel more, or collect more. We have *Jesus Christ*, the Son of God himself, inviting us to come and drink of his life, his love, his peace, his joy, to drink of the very life of God, to drink in the Spirit gifted to us on Pentecost. If only we would truly choose to do so."

"This Sunday, we read and hear about the Trinity, about the Ascension, about the divine life we are called to participate in, not just affirm through intellectual ascent, but to live, every day, in love. We read about *God.* And that, friends, that is mysterious and confusing to modern ears.... that is what is interesting about religion... and that, we believe, is what we are all really in awe of, what we are truly looking for."
