🔸 Saint Hermas the Apostle 🔸 Saint Hermas was one of the Seventy Apostles and is mentioned by Saint Paul in his Epistle to the Romans.
He was Greek by birth but lived for many years in Rome. Later, he became Bishop of Philippopolis and ended his earthly life as a martyr for Christ.
According to tradition, Saint Hermas received a revelation from an Angel of God and wrote the deeply instructive book known as “The Shepherd.”
Though once wealthy, Hermas fell into great poverty because of the sins of his sons.
One day, while praying, a man in white garments appeared to him, holding a staff in his hand. He revealed himself as the Angel of Repentance, sent by God to guide Hermas until the end of his life.
The Angel gave him twelve commandments: to believe in God, live simply and innocently, love truth, avoid lies, guard purity of thought, learn patience, fear God and not the devil, do good, avoid evil, pray with faith, reject sorrow and doubt, discern true and false prophecy, and flee every sinful desire.
Saint Hermas reminds us that repentance is not despair, but the path back to God.
