“Under the Tent or Under the Cross?”

Family and friends, I recently learned that right here in our own backyard, at the Clifton Park Center Mall and the Wilton Mall, there are shows being performed by something called Paranormal Cirque. This is what is being offered to our communities, our families, and especially our young people: “Slow down so you can take it all in…but if you scare easily, you might want to run… as we welcome you into this new world of Paranormal Cirque! Under this Clown Castle, the black and red big top tent, Acrobats of the Air, illusionists, freaks, mysterious creatures, and all the elements that make one think of a ‘normal’ circus, but that of normal has very little! A show poised between fun and uninhibited fear, transporting you into a dark world inhabited by creatures with incredible circus art abilities. A fusion of circus, theatre, and cabaret that brings you back to dreams… nightmares… and fantasies. Scare, encompass, amuse, and surprise—ingredients for emotions impossible to forget. This is truly a paranormal experience like no other.”

This is what is being celebrated in our region. This is what is being marketed as harmless fun. This is what is being placed before our families as entertainment. And while I am not here to condemn performers or attack artistry, I am here to shine the light of God’s Word on the deeper reality this represents. Because what is happening under that tent is not just a show, it is a symbol. A symbol of a nation, a community, and even homes drifting from the light of Christ and becoming increasingly comfortable with the shadows. And so today, in stark contrast to the darkness being lifted under that tent, I want to bring you a biblical, life changing message of truth, hope, and light. A message not from the world of the paranormal, but from the eternal Word of God; not from a circus of shadows, but from the cross of Jesus Christ.

In a nation increasingly drawn to the spectacle of darkness, the rise of shows like Paranormal Cirque reveals more than a cultural fascination, it exposes a spiritual hunger that entertainment cannot satisfy. Under the black and red tent, audiences are invited into a world where nightmares are celebrated, illusions are exalted, and shadows become the stage. The show promises fear, fantasy, and the thrill of the grotesque, echoing the sobering truth of John 3:19, that “people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.” This is not merely a circus; it is a mirror reflecting a nation drifting from the grounding presence of the Church in everyday life. When the rhythms of worship, Scripture, and discipleship fade from the public square, other voices, louder, darker, and more seductive rush to fill the silence. Yet in stark contrast to the tent of shadows stands the Church of Jesus Christ, proclaiming not fear but hope, not illusion but truth, not chaos but redemption. Scripture declares with unequivocal truth, “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Where the circus traffics in temporary thrills, the Gospel offers eternal transformation. Where the show invites you into a nightmare for a night, Jesus invites you into life for eternity. But the concern is not only national, it is local. It is personal. It is in our communities and especially in our homes. The spiritual drift of a nation begins with the spiritual drift of families. When prayer disappears from the dinner table, when Scripture is no longer opened in the living room, when worship is replaced by weekend busyness, when parents outsource discipleship to screens and culture, the home becomes vulnerable to the very shadows we lament in society. Deuteronomy 6 commands us to teach God’s Word diligently to our children, to talk of it when we sit in our houses, when we walk by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise. But when the Word is absent from the home, the world becomes the teacher. And the world is not neutral. The world is loud. The world is persuasive. The world is discipling our children with a curriculum of confusion, fear, and spiritual emptiness. The tent of Paranormal Cirque is only a symbol of a deeper reality: a generation being shaped more by entertainment than by eternity, more by spectacle than by Scripture, more by culture than by Christ.

This is why the call of Romans 12:2 is so urgent: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Conformity begins subtly in what we watch, what we celebrate, what we tolerate, and what we allow into our homes. Transformation begins intentionally in what we meditate on, what we teach, what we model, and what we prioritize. The implications are clear: if we want to see revival in our nation, it must begin in our communities; if we want to see revival in our communities, it must begin in our homes; and if we want to see revival in our homes, it must begin in our hearts. We must reclaim the spiritual leadership of our families. We must restore the altar of prayer in our living rooms. We must return to the daily reading of Scripture. We must gather our children and speak the truth of God into their lives. We must choose the cross over the circus, the Savior over the spectacle, the light over the darkness., and for those who feel the weight of that darkness, whether through fear, confusion, guilt, or spiritual emptiness, the invitation of Jesus Christ is open, powerful, and personal.

The Gospel is not a call to try harder; it is a call to come home. Jesus says, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He invites you to come by way of the cross, where His blood was shed for the forgiveness of sins, where the wrath of God was satisfied, where the love of God was demonstrated, and where the door to eternal life was opened. He invites you to trust in His death and resurrection, to receive the gift of salvation by grace through faith, and to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit who gives new birth, new desires, and a new identity. Through Christ’s resurrection, you can receive a resurrected life, freedom from sin, victory over darkness, and the promise of eternity with Him.

Today, you can step out from under the tent of fear and into the kingdom of light. Today, you can leave the shadows and walk into the arms of the Savior who died and rose for you. Today, you can be forgiven, redeemed, restored, and made new. Come to Jesus Christ. Trust in Him. Surrender to Him. And let His light become your life, your home, your community, and your future.

Heavenly Father, We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, thanking You for shining truth into our hearts today. Lord, we confess that our nation, our communities, and even our homes have too often drifted toward the shadows. We have allowed the noise of culture to drown out Your voice, and we have allowed the darkness of this world to creep into places where Your light should reign. But today, O God, we ask You to awaken us again. Restore in us a hunger for Your Word. Rekindle in our homes the fire of prayer. Strengthen parents, encourage families, and unite communities under the banner of Christ.

Father, for those who feel the weight of sin, fear, or confusion, draw them now by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Lead them to the cross where Jesus shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins. Open their hearts to trust in His death and resurrection. Grant them new life, new hope, and a new beginning. Break every chain of darkness, silence every lie of the enemy, and fill every surrendered heart with the light of Christ. May Your Spirit empower us to walk as children of light, to stand firm in truth, and to shine brightly in a world that desperately needs You. We ask all this in the mighty, saving, resurrecting name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Now may the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Light that no darkness can overcome, shine upon your heart, your home, and your steps. May the grace of God strengthen you, the love of Christ surround you, and the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with courage to walk in truth. May you go not under the tent of fear, but under the covering of God’s glory. May His peace guard your mind, His Word guide your decisions, and His presence dwell richly in your home. And may the blessing of Almighty God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—be upon you and remain with you always. Amen!

🇺🇸 A CALL TO PRAYER — 250 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸

In 1776, during one of the most critical moments in American history, the Continental Congress issued a call for a Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Humiliation — seeking the guidance, mercy, and favor of Almighty God for the future of our nation.

Now, 250 years later, we invite you to join us as we remember this historic call to prayer and seek the Lord together once again.
