We held our annual board meeting on the 26 of October. Thank you all for attending! As alway, at the end of the meeting we had our drawings for the two raffles. One being the quilt crafted and donated by Jerry and Shirley Surritte and the hand made buck horn knife by the late great Kevin Tackitt.
The recipients of the two prizes are Kelley Smith and Linda Cotter. Congratulations to you both!
We also want to thank everyone who contributed to the Mount Zion Cemetery Association, this year was a pretty successful fund raising event. We are so grateful! We are still in the process of cleaning up the downed trees and hopefully beginning the plans for building a new pavilion for future meetings. Again, thank you to everyone who was a part of this past fund raising effort!

Great turnout a couple weeks ago for our Spring Cleanup on April 26th! We had several willing volunteers that gave us a portion of their Saturday to help the remaining cleanup of the storm aftermath along with our normal annual cleanup work. Thank you all very much!! Special thanks to the folks that came out from The First Christian Church of West Plains. Also want to recognize our great neighbors that have helped, Jack Sloan and our Amish friends that have volunteer to help us with all the brush piles as well.

Saturday Spring Cleanup at the Cemetery! 04/26/2025
Starts at 9:00AM and will end when everyone wants to quit. The biggest concerns are the thousands of small branches/sticks strewn about because of the tornado and subsequent cleaning up of said tree debris. Bring gloves, rakes and lots of energy. We will be providing large trash bags for smaller debris. Drinks along with lunch provided. There will be a makeshift Pavilion shaded area available also. Thank you all for your help!

For those of you that are interested, We previously scheduled a work day for April 12th which is this weekend. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to do much of an area wide cleanup until we remove most, if not all the larger tree debris away from the tomb stones and adjacent areas. We will need to reschedule and I will let everyone know the next scheduled cleanup. We do have ongoing help continuing the removal of the large trees and excess wood/ branches, thanks to Randal and Brandon Evans, myself and Jack Sloan. We have managed to get much of the larger trees removed. Also I have just heard that Randal's Church, 1st Christian has also volunteered to help in the coming weeks to rake up the smaller branches and debris strewn about the cemetery. One more note, Cawvey's Monument Co. has been gracious with their help in replacing many of the stones that have been blown over or moved off of their foundations. Thank You all so much!!

Just received a call from Cawvey's Monument and they are planning on helping us reset all the fallen headstones. THANK YOU all so much for your willingness to help us as well as other Cemetery's that were affected by the tornadoes. I will contact Cawvey's to schedule a time as soon as we have the debris moved away from all the headstones that need replaced.

Greetings to all interested in Mount Zion Cemetery. As you can see by the photos we took a direct hit from the devastating tornadoes that hit so many people, farms, homes and businesses of our community over the weekend of March 15th. We will be needing several volunteers to help cleanup the place as I believe there are no longer any trees standing in the cemetery. Madonna Tackett and myself are working on getting some heavy equipment and people together to help with the cleanup efforts. Jackie and I have already cleared some of the tree debris out of the drive so we can get vehicles and equipment in there. Many large and some small headstones have fallen over and will need several people or rigging of some sort to stand back up. Trees across the fence have fallen over on several grave sites and will need removal as well. Both the roadside sign and our Mt. Zion sign have blown away somewhere.

I want to be clear, please focus your volunteering efforts on people or places in greater need before helping us as we are okay for the time being. You can contact me (Ted) at 417-255-5255 if you have large equipment or anything that you would be willing to help with the cleanup efforts, placement of the heavy stones or whatever else needs done. Thank you in advance for whatever you can do to help the Mount Zion Cemetery.
