3rd Annual Jerry Creech Memorial Missions Fund
June 27th, 2026 4-6pm
BBQ Dinner Plate $10. (includes BBQ Sandwich, baked beans, slaw and chips)
Jerry and Gail Creech started coming to Dunn’s Chapel in the late 1980’s. Jerry was a long-time member of the Evangelism/Mission Committee and had a big heart for missions. Jerry worked many years in Awana and enjoyed taking the youth camping on Lake Murray. Jerry enjoyed singing in the choir, visiting people in their home or hospital, and would help anyone in need. Jerry was a great storyteller and everyone that knew Jerry always appreciated all that he did for mission, the youth and Dunn’s Chapel.

Gerald's Weekly Wisdom
Optimism Threatened by Reality
Almost everyone wants to approach the circumstances they face with optimism. That is understandable. But what happens when optimism is shattered by a reality that is painful? Do you have a plan for responding when your reality is shaped by mistakes you made; circumstances you cannot control: or a hurt you are struggling to forgive? We must be able to respond better when our optimism is threatened by a reality which seems impossible to overcome. The good news is that this is exactly the great benefit of the Christian faith. The challenging news is that we must learn how to grow in our faith so that we find renewed hope and optimism even in the most difficult of circumstances. This is where attending church and studying the Bible are so critical. We learn from those who have been there gone through tough stuff. Nehemiah is just such a person. If you don’t remember who Nehemiah was, he lived during the fifth century BC, during the reign of King Artaxerxes I of Persia. A Jew, Nehemiah grew up in the Persian Empire after Israel had been conquered by King Nebuchadnezzar. Nehemiah served as the king’s cupbearer. That job taught Nehemiah to respond better when his optimism was threatened. Nehemiah tasted the king’s drinks to test for poisoning. Whatever you are doing in your life, it involves God’s preparation for the moment when your optimism is threatened by a reality bigger than what you can handle on your own. God prepared and chose this man to lead in rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls. Nehemiah survived testing the king’s drinks for poison. His most severe test would come with the intense opposition he faced in rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls. He was ready when his optimism was threatened by reality. He was ready because he had a right attitude as captured by this verse, Nehemiah 1:7, “We have acted very corruptly against You ...” When we care most about our relationships with God we are on a path of developing optimism which can survive when threatened by even the worst reality. When we are accountable for our spiritual failings we give birth to a humility which is essential to living with optimism. Don’t show up to get everything you can. Show up to give everything you have. Be kind and grateful … firm and faithful. This is how you raise the bar on your discipleship. Gerald
