There’s more to life than the pursuit of more. What if a community of faith could show us how to find it? Do you have someone in your life who is curious about faith, or who might be open to discussing it? Or perhaps this describes you!
Alpha sessions are getting underway next week on Wednesday, September 2 at St John Vianney Church, providing a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to mull over the big questions of life and to explore what Christianity has to say about them. All are invited, no matter their background or beliefs. It is free, and there is no pressure to come back. Each of the sessions begins with a delicious meal, followed by a brief video on a broad question of faith. Guests are encouraged to participate in a small group discussion and share their own views; no judgement - just an open invitation to open conversation.

The registration form is now up on our website. Alpha | Wednesdays at 6:15 PM in the Parish Center - 160 Hinesburg Rd, S. Burlington | free dinner, video, discussion. For more information or to register – stjohnvianneyvt.org/alpha

Family Members of Deacon Luis Gonzalo are putting out this offer to feed friends and neighbors in Vermont, and help friends and family in Columbia. This is a private initiative with SJV hosting for pickup (cash and Venmo only). But (if you like empanadas) see below for the food: Chicken and/or beef empanadas, with Colombian ají.

“A week ago, the earthquake in Colombia changed the lives of so many families and created an urgent need for help. Being far from home, we decided to organize an empanada fundraiser to support the affected families. Every purchase and share means so much to us as we try to help our people back home. Thank you so much for supporting us!”

For prices and package discounts, text message 914-426-2397. Or. ‪(802) 488‑0824‬.

Please join us at St John Vianney parish on Wednesday evening, August 26, following the 5:00 Mass, for a special Holy Hour with Vespers. In line with Pope Leo’s August prayer intention of “Evangelization in the City,” and our own “August is Mission Month” initiative, we will direct our prayers to ask for the Holy Spirit’s presence at and for the success of our upcoming Alpha, which begins Wednesday, September 2.
After the Holy Hour, we will head to the downstairs Church Hall and share in a potluck dinner. For more info, or to sign up for the potluck, please contact Connie in the office.

Inviting people to participate in parish life can feel uncomfortable and seem complicated. But we’ve got something to make it easier! Coming up on August 4, we will be running a four session video series called Life Shared which will help encourage and equip participants to feel more at ease sharing their faith with friends, colleagues and neighbors. Dinner’s at 5:45 pm – free or make a donation – followed by videos and discussion, with concrete, positive steps and handy tips for speaking with others about faith. Life Shared | Tuesdays, 8/4-8/25 | 5:45 PM in the downstairs Church Hall. For more information or to register (it's not too late!) – stjohnvianneyvt.org/life-shared

August has been declared "Mission Month" here at St John Vianney parish, and we've got a line-up of opportunities to choose from so you can jump in and start storing up treasure in heaven.
First up - Life Shared will be happening every Tuesday evening, beginning with dinner at 5:45PM in the downstairs Church Hall. It's a video series and small group discussion designed to help anyone feel more at home sharing their faith with others.
Next - FOCUS missionary Yahir Ramirez will be sharing testimony about his faith journey and his work on college campuses in a brief presentation at Masses.
The following weekend - we will hear from a participant who attended our last Alpha course. Our next Alpha will begin in early September and we would appreciate your prayers for its success! Be on the lookout for our Luke 11:02 21 Day Prayer Campaign cards to be available at the church entrances. And we are still in need of a few people to round out our Team - contact Connie in the office if you can help, at [email protected]
Last but not least - as part of the Diocese's Tri-Annual Mission Co-op, Fr Paul Sebastian from Blessed Sacrament in Stowe will be the celebrant at some upcoming Masses. The second collection at those Masses will go to support initiatives for his diocese in southern India.
