First Presbyterian Church, South Boston, Virginia Providing opportunities and resources to inspire people to grow in their Christian faith, witness and living to Grow God’s Presence. All that we have is God’s.

Theological Principles that are important to us are:

As Christians, we believe in the sovereignty of God. God is almighty, all-knowing, all- loving, and everlasting. The Trinity — God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit — is a key to how we understand and relate to God. We believe that the Bible is our “only infallible rule of faith and practice.” It is the Word of God and shows the way of salvation t

hrough our Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. The Church gathers to worship, learn, and be equipped to live and share the Gospel with others. Therefore, God calls us to give regularly and proportionally of our time, talents, and resources for the work of the Kingdom. The “we” of Christianity is very important to us. God’s people are in a covenant relationship and can grow and encourage and minister together precisely because of God’s work in this community. A key emphasis of the Presbyterian Church has always been education. We have an ordained clergy, stress education and learning for our children, and must never stop learning as adults. Christian education is the call of every Christian. A cornerstone of the ministry of the church is Outreach. God has given us the gift of Life to share with others. We are called to seek ways to reach out in the community and world in a regular and creative manner as God leads us. Since its foundation, this church has sought to live out the Christian faith, share the gospel, and seek others to join in that mission.

Theology Matters

One of the most sobering thoughts I can have is this: 💭

Someone may form an opinion about Jesus based on the way I treat them today.

Not because I’m perfect.
And not because I always get it right.
But because I carry His name.

Lord, help me represent You well - in my words, my attitude, my patience, and my love.🙏🤎✝️

May 30th - Memorial Service

05/25/2026

I look at this picture every year on Memorial Day and the older I get, the more deeply I feel it.

- The freedom to publicly preach Christ
- The children I'll laugh with today
- The vacation I will enjoy with Jana later this summer
- The life we've been blessed to build together
.. all enabled by young men and women who did not get to enjoy them, so that you and I could.

And they were YOUNG. Ronald Reagan put this in striking perspective:

“It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives—the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is remember.”

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every family who sacrificed a loved one so that we could enjoy our loved ones today.

"Greater love has no man than this; that someone lay down his life for his friends."
– John 15:3
