In 1969, St. Andrew welcomed Fr. Constantine Matthews and his Presvytera, marking a new era of community connection and celebration. During his ministry, the parish joined the first South Bend Ethnic Festival in 1973 and hosted the inaugural Grecian Ball, celebrating Greek culture and fellowship. In 1976, St. Andrew launched the beloved Grecian Festival, which soon became one of Michiana’s most anticipated annual events. Under Fr. Matthews' leadership, the parish also introduced the cherished tradition of a Lenten potluck dinner during the Lenten Lecture. Lenten potluck dinners are still a unifying event that continue to this day, bringing together parishioners in faith and community.

Fr. George C. Massouras’s arrival at St. Andrew brought both his pastoral dedication and a deep love of learning. While serving our parish, he continued his studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a Master’s degree. He later served as a guest lecturer in New Testament and Greek at both Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College. Fr. Massouras founded the Bishop Philotheos Parish Library, honoring St. Andrew’s first priest, and established an annual Lenten Lecture. Through these initiatives, he greatly advanced the religious education and spiritual growth of his parishioners.

Father Velis quickly became active in community outreach. He reached out to elderly Greek railroad workers in Elkhart, helping them return to the faith after many years away. His reflections on Orthodox services and traditions during Holy Week of 1958 were shared on local radio and television, including a live broadcast of the Lamentations Service. In 1959, Father Velis accepted an assignment in Spokane, Washington, and Father Dionysios Assimakides was assigned temporarily to our parish. In 1963, Archbishop Iakovos visited St. Andrew, introducing our new parish bylaws and appointing the first lay president of the Parish Council. His Eminence also announced that Father George Massouras would serve as the new priest of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church.

The Good Samaritans of St. Andrew continued their beloved tradition of lent preparing and serving the annual Palm Sunday Luncheon. This year was special as the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary, having been founded in December of 1926.

The ladies of the Good Samaritans prepared a scrumptious Lenten meal featuring consisted of plaki, the traditional fish baked in a flavorful sauce of onions, tomatoes and spices served with skorthalia (garlic sauce), mashed potatoes and peas with carrots. There was also a variety of handmade delicious Lenten desserts.

In addition, this dedicated group of women colored then wrapped 450 Easter eggs in tulle tied with red ribbon for Pascha.
