Advent Ember Days:
Four times a year, the Church sets aside three days to focus
on God through His marvelous creation. These quarterly
periods take place around the beginnings of the natural sea-
sons on successive Wednesday (the day on which Christ was
betrayed), Friday (the day on which Christ died), and Satur-
day (the day of entombment). Traditionally, these times are
spent in penance by fasting and partially abstaining, and with
the intentions of thanking God for the gifts He gives us in
nature and beseeching Him for the discipline to use them in
moderation; these fasts are rooted in the Old Testament
(see Zacharias 8:19). Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after
Gaudete Sunday (3rd Sunday of Advent) are known as
“Advent Embertide,” and they come near the beginning of
the Season of Winter. Liturgically, the readings for the days'
Masses follow along with the general themes of Advent,
opening up with Wednesday's Introit of Isaias 45:8 and
Psalm 18:2:
Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let
the clouds rain the Just: let the earth be opened and
bud forth a Savior.
The heavens show forth the glory of God: and the
firmament declareth the work of His hands.
The Gospel readings for the three days concern, respective-
ly, the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-28), Visitation (Luke 1:37-
47), and St. John the Baptist's exhortation to “prepare the
way of the Lord and make straight His paths” (Luke 3:1-6)

St. Andrew Christmas Novena
The Saint Andrew Christmas Novena prayer, also known simply as the Christmas Novena, gets its name from the prayer beginning on the feast of Saint Andrew (November 30) and concluding on Christmas. It is believed to be over 100 years old, and is traditionally prayed 15 times every day, though not necessarily all at once. It may be broken up to be prayed throughout the day, such as five prayers in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

It is a simple and beautiful Advent prayer of preparation and petition by opening our hearts to both seek and to receive the Christ Child, and the salvation He brings on that cold, silent night, while asking God, with humble confidence, to grant our deepest longings.

The prayer itself is directed toward God (not Saint Andrew) and zeros in on that sacred moment when Christ, through His Blessed Mother, entered human history, and we were forever changed. The Word became Flesh and dwelt among us! During the ever increasing noise and distractions of the Advent season, let this prayer help keep our minds and hearts fixed on Jesus, so as to be more ready to receive Him on Christmas Day, and when He comes again

Please plan on joining us as we celebrate this beautiful Mass in honor of Our Most Blessed Mother.

This Mass will be sung on Saturday, December 6 at
7:00am. Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will
follow until 10:00am when Benediction will be given.

The Rorate Mass is a devotion wherein the Mass of the
Blessed Virgin for Advent is offered just before dawn and
the church is lit only by candlelight. In the dimly lit setting,
we prepare to honor the Light of the world, Who is soon to
be born, and offer praise for the gift of Our Lady. The interplay of light and darkness speak to the meaning of Advent and the coming of the Light of the world. For more
information about the Rorate Mass, go here:

November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.
The following is how we can gain plenary indulgences for all , especially those who have no one to pray for them.
Also see the sign up below to join St. Stanislaus parishioners to pray for the Holy Souls on Wednesday, Nov 5th at 7:00 p.m. St. Joseph Cemetery and Saturday Nov 8th at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery on Portage Ave.
Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord and let Perpetual Light shine upon them. May all the souls of the faithfully , through the Mercy of God, Rest in Peace

All Souls: Indulgences
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory is granted to the faithful
who (1) on any and each day
from Nov. 1 to 8, devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, if only mentally for the departed:
(2) on All Souls’ Day, devoutly visit a church
or an oratory and recite an Our Father and
Creed.

In order to be capable of gaining indulgences one must be
baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least at the completion of the prescribed works.

To gain a plenary indulgence, in addition to excluding all attachment to sin, even venial,
it is necessary to perform the indulgenced
work and fulfill the following three conditions :
Sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intention
of the Sovereign Pontiff.
A single sacramental confession suffices for gaining several plenary indulgences [21 days before or after]; but Holy
Communion must be received and prayer for the intention of the Holy Father must be
recited for the gaining of each plenary indulgence.

Join us this coming Saturday to Celebrate the All Saints Feast Day.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 8:00 a.m. Followed by a Sung Mass at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome!
Below is a brief explanation about the Communion of Saints, which we all should aspire to:

The three parts of the communion of saints are the Church Militant (the faithful on Earth), the Church Penitent or Suffering (the souls in Purgatory), and the Church Triumphant (the saints in Heaven). This concept represents the unity of all believers, both living and dead, who share in Christ's grace and are bound together in love and prayer.
Church Militant: The faithful who are still alive on Earth, often called the "pilgrims" because they are still striving for holiness and fighting against sin.
Church Penitent (or Suffering): The souls who have died but are not yet in Heaven. They are in Purgatory, being purified and are preparing for the heavenly state.
Church Triumphant: The saints who are in Heaven, already victorious and in the presence of God. They may be officially canonized or not.
