Word and Sacraments Apostolic Lutheran Church of Sophia, NC

Word and Sacraments Apostolic Lutheran Church of Sophia, NC This is the assembly of all believers among whom the Gospel is preached in its purity and the holy sacraments are administered according to the Gospel.

Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one to another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. We strive to be in Concord with the following statement from our Symbolic Books:

It is also taught among us that one holy Christian church will be a

nd remain forever. For it is sufficient for the true unity of the Christian church that the Gospel be preached in conformity with a pure understanding of it and that the sacraments be administered in accordance with the divine Word. It is not necessary for the true unity of the Christian church that ceremonies, instituted by men, should be observed uniformly in all places. It is as Paul says in Eph. 4:4,5, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” (Augsburg Confession VII:1-4 [German], p. 32)

ERE YET THE DAWN HAS FILLED THE SKIES
(Johann Heermann, 1630, page 66 Translated by Catherine Winkworth)
Ere yet the dawn has filled the skies,
Behold, my Savior Christ arise;
He chaseth from us sin and night,
And brings us joy and life and light.

O stronger Thou than death and hell!
Where is the foe Thou canst not quell,
What heavy stone Thou canst not roll
From off the prisoned, anguished soul?

If Jesus lives, can I be sad?
I know He loves me, and am glad;
Though all the world were dead to me,
Enough, O Christ, if I have Thee!

He feeds me, comforts and defends,
And when I die His angel sends
To bear me whither He is gone,
For of His own He loseth none.

No more to fear or grief I bow,
God and the angels know me now;
The joys prepared for me today
Drive fear and mourning far away.

Strong champion! For this comfort, see,
The whole world brings her thanks to Thee;
And once we, too, shall raise above
More sweet and loud the song of love
