Learning to distinguish between unpeaceful states of mind and peaceful, positive states is essential if we want to experience happiness in our future. In Buddhism, negative states of mind such as anger, jealousy, or desirous attachment are called “delusions” and function only to disturb our inner peace. The essence of Dharma practice is to reduce and eventually to completely eradicate this negativity in our minds, replacing it with peaceful, positive, and virtuous states. This is the main purpose of training in meditation.
