Trail Life USA Troop 226 A ministry of Somerville Baptist Church, Somerville, Alabama
Trail Life USA — a Christian adventure, character, & leadership program for young men.

Trail Life USA is a Christian adventure, character, and leadership movement for our nation’s young men. The exciting K-12 program centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man’s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for his peers. The Christ-centered program is chartered by churches and organizations and led by high caliber Christian adults using a

specifically biblical worldview as our standard. Elementary-age boys join the Woodlands Trail:
Foxes – Kindergarten to 1st grade
Hawks – 2nd to 3rd grade
Mountain Lions – 4th to 5th grade

Middle School Boys are Navigators – 6th to 8th grade. High School boys are Adventurers – 9th to 12th grade. As young men progress through the various levels of the TRAIL LIFE USA program, they take part in camping, leadership development, rank advancements, awards, a trail badge program, community service, summer adventures, spiritual training, and a variety of special offerings. Several members are joining us following previous involvement in the Boy Scout program. For them, it is comforting to know that existing BSA ranks, awards, merit badges, and training will be readily transferable to this new program. In fact, Scouts on the “Trail to Eagle” are able to transfer over to the “Trail to Freedom.” The work that they have already completed will be recognized and will not be lost.

We have swamp milkweed seeds we will hand out for planting this fall. They are native to AL and the monarch uses it as a host and nectar plant. Thanks to each trailman for their help with making the seed packs to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Earth Day on Redstone Arsenal! Great work trailmen!

Butterfly Milkweed, Asclepias Tuberosa. This TN native wildflower is a favorite plant of the monarch butterfly. Monarchs will only lay their eggs on plants in the milkweed family. When the eggs hatch the caterpillars consume the plant and assume its toxicity. This makes them taste bitter to predators!! Monarchs are in trouble. Their numbers are in serious decline. Planting milkweed can help!! http://tnstateparks.com/parks/about/seven-islands
