“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Colossians 3:2 ESV

Everything we do matters to God and is used by Him. Whether you’re in your dream career or working for someone difficult, whether you’re taking care of your house, or organizing a business—everything we do is an opportunity to worship Jesus. If we view life through a lens that is only concerned with ourselves, we will quickly grow tired of our circumstances and disappointed by our striving. But if everything becomes about Him, His purposes, and His glory, then everything is worth doing well. He never fails to bless us with His presence, love, and grace. And one day, Jesus isn’t going to say, “Well done, good and successful servant.” Instead, He will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Take what God has given you and do the best that you can do.

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah”
Psalm 68:19 ESV

God has never stopped being true to who He is. He is our ever-present help in time of need. He is our constant source of strength. He is our comforter and our provider. The God that David praises in Psalm 68 is our God. He is the One who continually takes care of us, stooping down to meet us in our mess and carry us out of brokenness. God watched over Noah when the earth was flooded (Genesis 8:1), and He made a covenant with Abraham to bless, protect, and multiply his descendants (Genesis 17:4-7). God is faithful, He daily bears our burdens. Will we still endure hard times? Yes. But we will never have to go through them alone. The Savior of the world is near. God is with us.

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Romans 8:26 ESV

If you've found yourself feeling weary, overwhelmed, or unsure of yourself, there's good news, and this verse reminds us. For those of us in Christ, we’re not in this alone. God’s Spirit works in us and through us to accomplish His purposes—even when we don’t see it or feel it. He’s bringing things to mind, putting people in our path, and stirring up our hearts with what matters to Him. So the pressure to do it all, have it all, and be it all is off! You don’t have to rely on yourself. You don’t have to be the one to keep the world from falling apart—that’s God’s job. God’s Spirit helps you to pray. God’s Spirit strengthens your heart. God’s Spirit intercedes for you when you’re lacking the words. You have a Helper who meets you in your vulnerability, and offers you His strength. You can trust Him to help you, to guide you, and to offer you His strength when you are weak.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV

Paul lists nine character qualities that should be evident in someone’s life if they’re walking according to God’s ways. However, just like the fruit of a tree is not meant for the tree itself, but for others, so also the fruit of the Spirit is not meant for themselves, but for others. We are to love one another, take joy in one another, have peace with one another, and be kind to one another. The fruit of the Spirit are meant to be grown and harvested within Christian community rather than in isolation. We were created for a relationship with God and others. Take a look at the list of fruit the Spirit. Be honest and ask yourself: Which fruit am I producing? Which fruit am I not producing, and why am I not producing it? Take note of a few small steps you can take to grow closer to God in those areas of your life and produce more fruit.

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38 ESV

Have you ever gone the wrong way? Once you realized that you were headed in the opposite direction of where you wanted to end up, did you keep going—or did you turn around?
We’ve all been lost at one time or another. We’ve all done things we regret. To summarize our situation: God made the world, we messed it up, and Jesus has come to make things right again. “Sin” (the Greek word hamartia) means to miss the mark, to be mistaken, or to wander from the path of righteousness. “Repent” (the Greek word metanoeō) means to change one’s mind, change direction, or think and act differently. But you must decide if you want to abandon the path that eventually leads to empty pleasure and unnecessary pain, and turn back to God—allowing grace to wash over you, and by accepting the gift that’s already yours. And that awesome gift—the Holy Spirit—will help you, lead you, and comfort you in a way that only He can. Ask Him to give you the strength, discernment, and endurance to keep following Him wherever He leads. He is the better way.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:16 ESV

Is it possible to live a life that honors God? Without surrendering and submitting to God’s lead, our sinful nature is at war with what God has for us. But with the help of the Holy Spirit, who softens and molds and reshapes our hearts, we can learn to crave what God’s deemed best. To put it simply, the secret to living a godly life is the Holy Spirit. Jesus has already done the hard and beautiful work of salvation—by living, dying, and rising again for the sake of His children—but now He wants to continue His mighty work in us and through us. it is impossible—if you’re fighting by yourself, but when we cling to His Word, all things are possible with God, to live a life that honors Him.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV

Everyone thinks about freedom differently. Some people define freedom by our human will—if we can choose what we want, then we can be free. These ideas are a bit different from what we find in Scripture. According to God’s Word, freedom is found wherever God is found. Freedom is found when we live according to God’s original design for our life. When we begin our life with Jesus, He gives us a new heart and way to live. He also sends the Spirit of God to live within us. Freedom doesn’t come from doing whatever we want but from living according to the Spirit of God who lives within us. Through God’s Word and talking with Him daily, we have access to true freedom. Can you identify one or two things that are holding you back from living this way? Spend time in His presence through prayer and reading Scripture. Your life will be transformed if you continue to spend time with the only One who can thoroughly change you.
