“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV

Even though God’s people had rebelled, even though the strength of Israel was gone and they were facing the consequences of their idolatry, even though their unfaithfulness was making their lives fall apart. God still poured out His steadfast love. God still showed off His endless mercy. God still lavished His people with His constant faithfulness. That is why we still have hope. If you’ve run from God, ignored His good design, disregarded His warnings, purposely rebelled against Him, or simply chose to forget His existence all together, it’s not too late to turn back. God doesn’t ignore those who come to Him. He doesn’t dismiss those with a humble and repentant heart. He is patiently and faithfully waiting for those who will return to Him.

1 John 5:14 ESV

God loves to give us what we ask for—when it’s asked with the right motive. When we submit a request, we might get a yes, a no, or a not yet. But regardless…We know that God hears us as we trust Him with our prayers. Whether you need wisdom, direction, or practical help, you can come boldly to our gracious God. You can come to God with your praises and doubts, opinions and concerns, thankfulness and questions. Talk to God today about whatever is on your mind, and ask God to align your desires with His will and ask for anything that pleases Him.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.“
James 1:22 ESV

The Bible is inspired by God, which means He spoke through humans to create these letters and books. God’s Word is living and active. The Holy Spirit uses the Bible to speak to us even today. This verse tells us that the power of Scripture doesn’t just come by hearing it but by living it out. Scripture has the power to radically change the way we live, but we must make an effort to first read it and then do what it says. We must remember. It is not enough to simply read the Bible. We must do what the Bible says. Jesus says, “ If you love me, obey me.” To love is to obey. When we obey, He promises us that we will be successful in all we do.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Joshua 1:8 ESV

After being rescued from Egyptian slavery and wandering around in the wilderness for 40 years, the Hebrew people finally stood at the edge of the land God had promised. During the transition of authority, from Moses to Joshua, God gave this verse, to meditate on the law. What does it mean to meditate? Biblical meditation is filling your mind with the Word of God. By meditating on His word, we learn more about God’s character, that He loves us and wants what is best for us. And even though God was speaking directly to Joshua at that time, His advice holds timeless wisdom for us still today. He wants to guide us to the plan that He has for us. He gives us the wisdom and discernment. He gives us the power to obey because your obedience to God will bring success and prosper you, which means He will supply all your needs to equip you for His calling in your life. And even when we face battles like Joshua did, we'll always be better off with the timeless wisdom of God.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
Joshua 1:9 ESV

Throughout the Bible, there are various moments where God tells someone not to be afraid. In one instance, Joshua, the leader of Israel after the death of Moses, was taking the Israelites to their promised land (see: Exodus 3). He was leading over one million people to a place God had promised, and it meant going through some overwhelming and terrifying situations. In the midst of this, God commanded Joshua to do two things: Obey the Word of God and, be strong and courageous because the Lord was with them. (See: Joshua 1:7-9). Jesus also tells His disciples two main things:( Matthew 28:18-20) Obey His word (“go into all nations and make disciples”) and, He would be with them. God is always the same. He was the same God when He gave Joshua His word and the assurance of His presence, and He is the same God who gives us His Word and assures us of His presence. We are known, loved, and cared for by the faithful, consistent God—and He will never leave or abandon us.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 ESV

Moses led the people of Israel for forty years. He led them out of slavery in Egypt, through the Red Sea, gave them the Ten Commandments from his time on Mount Sinai, and walked with them through the wilderness until they reached the edge of Canaan. But as he neared the end of his life, God showed Moses that it was time to hand off leadership to another. In a final address to the people of Israel, he shares this verse with his successor, Joshua. Moses drew Joshua’s attention to the most important person in the story: God. it was only because of God that Israel could move forward. It was only because of God that they made it this far. And because God is the author of the story, His provision would continue after Moses is gone. And when God is with you, there is nothing to fear. He will lead the way.

We have wrapped up the "Matters of the Heart" series.

It was a powerful reminder of how important it is to guard our hearts, and that when we put God first, His blessings fall into place. Additionally, we learned that a grateful heart aligns with the will of God, and a heart that forgives brings true freedom and healing.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
James 5:16 ESV

Imagine a sick person who won’t tell anyone about their symptoms. Without help, getting through their illness would be challenging. Whether they need help from a doctor or just someone checking to see how they’re doing—it’s much easier to heal with the help of others. Similarly, when we don’t tell anyone about the challenges we’re facing, it can be hard to work through them. It can be hard to share our wrongdoings with others, but when we keep our sin to ourselves, we’re like the sick person who won’t ask for help—we suffer in isolation rather than allowing others to help us heal. James 5:16 tells us to share our wrongdoings with other believers so that we can heal together and pray for one another. And when we pray together, we give God the opportunity to heal our hearts. God is our healer—He saved us from the eternal consequences of sin through His Son Jesus. If you’re struggling with something today, take some time to share it with a trusted believer. Allow them to pray with you and ask God to guide you as you heal.
