Because of the expected snow on Sunday, we decided to cancel in-person worship to keep our congregants safe. Pastor Heidi recorded a portion of the service along with her message though for anyone to enjoy at their leisure. Stay safe and warm and reach out if you are in need.

“To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything is to succumb to violence. More than that, it is cooperation in violence. The frenzy of the activist neutralizes his or her work for peace.” -- Thomas Merton

I have been pondering this quote by Merton all day. So much is tugging on my heart as the lives of so many people I love are under attack. It feels as if with the stroke of a pen, more people have been turned into issues to be eradicated rather than people who deserve basic rights and human dignity. Immigrants, transfolk, people of color, the poor, women, and so many others have had their lives disregarded, experiences denied, and basic human rights, dignity and safety traded for positions of power. Staying vigilant is required of us, but it is exhausting.

“The frenzy of the activity neutralizes his or her work for peace.”

Make space to breathe. Let silence envelop you. Practice finding awe in the midst of it all. And stay connected to others. We can't do it all, and we definitely can't do it alone.

We need each other more than ever in these days we are facing.
