September 8, we celebrate the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, the first Great Feast of the new Church year. Her birth announces that God’s plan of salvation is beginning to unfold. Mary’s entire life becomes a response of love to God: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). And after receiving Christ within her, she immediately goes to serve Elizabeth (Luke 1:39). The Theotokos shows us that authentic love of God always moves outward in love and service of others.

Sept 1 - Beginning of the Church Year
As a new Church Year begins, may we renew our own response to the King's invitation: to put on Christ, remain clothed in His grace, embrace His Cross, and live even now as people preparing for the eternal Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
