Hello! I’m Katie Crump and I am serving as a Parish Life Director Intern in the Diocese of Lexington this summer. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but I have spent the last five years going to school in the place I now call home – Dayton, Ohio. I am currently working on my Master’s Degree in Theological Studies at the University of Dayton while working in Campus Ministry’s Center for Social Concern – leading retreats and immersion programs, engaging with social justice issues, and accompanying students.

I am passionate about justice and advocating for the dignity of the human person and the planet at a personal level through relationship building. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, baking sourdough bread, eating ice cream, crafting, attempting to play the guitar, sitting on my porch, and spending time with friends and family.

Two years ago, I spent the summer living and serving in Salyersville, Kentucky, through a program called the UD Summer Appalachia Program (UDSAP). Those eight weeks were filled with day camp, teen center, and nursing home visits, and intentional community with folks from UD and Salyersville.

I enjoyed the work that I did, but I really fell in love with the people and land that surrounded me. I received more from them than I could ever give. During that time, I grew to understand the great importance of simplicity, relationship, and long-lasting presence – values that continue to shape my life and ministry today.

I am excited to return to Kentucky this summer to continue growing in relationship with Appalachia and her people. I look forward to being a part of your community and getting to know many of you, and I very much look forward to slow Kentucky mornings spent sipping coffee on a porch!

Sending prayers and peace your way!

Traveling is NOT an excuse to miss your weekend mass obligation. The beauty of the Catholic faith is that you can be ANYWHERE in the world and attend mass with the same readings. It may not even be in a language you understand, but you can pick up on what's happening. Our church is truly universal. If you plan on traveling this summer, we encourage you to prioritize mass.

By prioritizing participation in Mass, Catholic travelers can enhance their vacation experience, deepen their faith, and foster a sense of unity with the global Catholic community.

It's always fun visiting churches when on the road. If you have visited another church outside of our diocese this summer, comment below with a photo and let us know what church you attended!

Pope Leo in Magnifica Humanitas his new encyclical letter address the danger and distortion of truth by the media power. Truth cannot be reduced to what is most popular, emotionally persuasive, or politically convenient. As Pope Leo reminds us, truth is a common good that requires verification, honest dialogue, responsible reasoning, and trust within the human community. When powerful interests shape information detached from truth and human dignity, society risks losing its moral compass.
