June is here and the Summer reading has begun! I'm committing to reading at least one non-fiction book every month in 2026, and I'd like you to join in. So, what's the pastor reading...?
This month, I'm starting a great book, "Love Divine: A Wesleyan Systematic Theology", by Thomas H. McCall and Jason E. Vickers. Dr. Vickers holds the Wesley Endowed Chair of Christian Theology at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary, and Dr. McCall is Timothy C. and Julie M. Tennent Professor of Theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. I've heard Jason Vickers speak many times, and Asbury Seminary is my alma mater. One description of the book says, "This comprehensive text introduces readers to the full range of Christian doctrines, beginning with the doctrine of God and including the doctrines of creation, human nature and sin, the person and work of Christ, the person and work of the Holy Spirit, salvation, church and sacraments, and last things. The volume also provides an overview of major theological developments in church history. Engaging each topic from a Wesleyan point of view, the book is firmly grounded in Holy Scripture, committed to classical creeds and confessions, and conversant with contemporary theologians from Catholic, Orthodox, and other Protestant traditions. One of the book’s most distinctive features is that the authors offer thoughtful responses to common objections to classical Christian orthodoxy and specific Wesleyan beliefs." This book is 640 pages, so it may also be my July read! Please join me. If you'd like to talk about it, I'd love to have a cup of coffee with you and discuss it! Until then, I'll see you around the kingdom!
Shalom, shalom
