For 30 years, Johnny and Marlene Dunbar have faithfully served, loved, prayed for, and walked alongside our church family. Their ministry has been about so much more than standing behind a pulpit. They have been there for the moments that make up a lifetime.

From weddings and baby dedications to baptisms, graduations, sporting events, and even the hardest goodbyes, they have celebrated with us, prayed with us, encouraged us, and stood beside us through every season of life. They have been part of our stories, our families, and so many of the moments we will carry with us forever.

As we walk through this season of transition, we are reminded just how deeply their years of love and faithful service have touched our church. Thirty years is more than a milestone. It is a legacy of lives loved, prayers prayed, seeds planted, and memories made.

Join us as we celebrate and honor 30 remarkable years of pastoral ministry! We would love for you to be part of this special occasion as we show our gratitude to two people who have given so much of themselves to our church family.

Attention, Heritage Hope family and friends. 🤍

Today, Brother Dunbar — or simply “Dunbar” to most of us — stood before his congregation to share some difficult news.

This past Friday, he underwent testing and received a diagnosis of ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Yet, in the face of this news, his heart remains unchanged. His desire is to keep living life to the fullest, walking forward with peace about what lies ahead and an even greater love for the people God has placed in his life.

We recently celebrated 30 years of pastoral ministry at Heritage Hope. For three decades, he has faithfully given his heart, his family’s time, and his love to the people who have walked through the doors of our church. He has poured himself into this congregation in ways that words could never fully express.

That is who he is.

A faithful shepherd. A plowman. A friend. A brother. A mentor. A man of God who believes with all his heart that, even in the midst of the storm, God is still good.

We invite you to read the statement below from Brother Dunbar, and listen to the video in the comments, and join us in prayer for him, his family, our church family, and the countless lives he has touched throughout his ministry.

We wanted to share this photo of him because his words say it better than we ever could:

Please continue to cover Brother Dunbar and his family in prayer as they walk through this season. May we surround them with the same love, faithfulness, and encouragement that he has so freely given to so many of us over the years.

The storm may be real, but so is our God. And He is still good. 🤍🙏
