The Assumption of Mary is a Catholic belief that at the end of her earthly life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was taken body and soul into Heaven by God. It is a dogma of the Church, formally defined by Pope Pius XII in 1950, though Christians had believed it for centuries.

Catholics celebrate this event each year on August 15 with the Solemnity of the Assumption. At Mass, Scripture readings and prayers reflect Mary’s unique role in salvation history and her sharing in her Son’s victory over sin and death. The feast inspires hope in the faithful, pointing to the destiny promised to all who remain united to Christ.

The Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, at 9:30 AM.

Gospel of the Day (Matthew 5,17-19)

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Thank you, Joel, for your 12 years of dedication and character as a representative of this city. Your name will go down as one of the best to ever wear a Browns uniform. Congrats on an excellent career. Forever a Brown.

Gospel of the Day (Matthew 5,13-16)

Jesus said to his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."
