Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito Unitarian Universalism combines two religious traditions: Universalism, formed in 1793, and Unitarianism, formed in 1825. Come find out if this is yours.

UUFSD Vision Statement
Inspired by our Unitarian Universalist principles, we are a vibrant, intentionally diverse congregation that models and promotes both locally and globally: love, spiritual growth, service, right relations and sustainable living. These two groups merged in 1961 to form the Unitarian Universalist Association. Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote seven princi

ples:

* The inherent worth and dignity of every person
* Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations
* Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
* A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
* The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
* The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
* Respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part

We come together in community to support each other in our individual and collective search for meaning. We have a historical theology of love, inclusion and service that lies at the core of our free and open search for truth. We invite you to experience this non-dogmatic religious community through Sunday worship, social action activities, community events and so much more. We are a welcoming and increasingly diverse community where we love, respect, and care for one another. We invite people of all races, classes, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and ages, as well as those from varied faith journeys to join us. There is a constant theme for those who have become members of this community. That theme is after years of searching, they have finally discovered a spiritual home. Services are at 9:00am and 11:00am on Sundays.

Climate Conversations

The NORTH COUNTY CLIMATE CHANGE ALLIANCE will meet here on the UUFSD campus in the Palmer Library on Saturday, June 20, 1:00 - 3:00 pm and you’re invited!

This monthly networking event is open to individuals and groups who are concerned about climate change. We also welcome those who are looking to learn more about climate change and for opportunities to become more involved. The format is a casual round robin discussion. Participants have the chance to share what they (or the groups they belong to) are doing and any upcoming events or announcements. You are not required to share anything; listening and taking in what others have to say is fine, too.

Please contact Elizabeth Mosley with any questions. Her email is [email protected]

Please note that the UUFSD Climate Group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm on ZOOM. All are welcome.

Lessons from Hungary: the Fall of Victor Orban

Save the Date: June 28, 2026
11:30 am, UUFSD Founders Hall

Lessons from Hungary: the Fall of Victor Orban

Join an eye-opening presentation on the dramatic outcome of Hungary’s recent elections and the fall of Viktor Orbán’s long-standing regime. The discussion will explore how democratic institutions were gradually reshaped and how voters ultimately mobilized to reverse that trend. You’ll also hear why the president of the Heritage Foundation, the architect behind Project 2025, described Hungary not just as a model but the model for Donald Trump’s vision of America. Learn the strategies that led to change, what lessons carry beyond Hungary, and why this moment matters globally.

Our presenter is UUFSD member, Gitta Pazar: “Growing up in Hungary gave me a front-row seat to one of the most transformative periods in the country’s modern history. After receiving my master’s degree in 1988, I moved to Budapest and spent two years actively participating in protests that helped reshape Hungary as we opened up the Iron Curtain. I have lived in the United States since 1992 but have remained deeply interested in Hungarian politics. I followed last month’s election closely and was in Budapest on May 9 to celebrate the swearing-in ceremonies of the new Parliament and Prime Minister.”

Sponsored by the Social Justice Action Committee. Send inquiries to Donna at [email protected].

What Do We Want From Our Next Governor? Bold Climate Leadership!

Primary voting day is only three days away. There are many criteria upon which to evaluate the candidates, but a recent poll shows that Californians overwhelmingly want bold climate leadership. According to the EnviroVoters Education Fund and David Binder Research, “The majority of voters believe that California’s next governor must deliver affordable clean energy, reliable water, fair insurance, polluter accountability, and protection of public lands in the face of federal rollbacks.”

The best way to figure out which candidates will deliver on those priorities is to pay attention to endorsements from environmental groups and to listen to the candidates debate environmental issues. Here are a few resources:

https://www.kcra.com/article/california-governor-candidatesto-state-climate-goals/71403230

Another information resource is the UUFSD Climate Group table located on the patio every Sunday after the service. Join the Climate Group the first Wednesday evening of the month at 7 pm via ZOOM.

As California grapples with the high cost of living and tightening of the state's oil and gas supply, all of the top eight candidates for governor have suggested they would reassess the state's climate goals.

2nd Monday Book Club June 8th

On Monday, June 8th, at 6:30pm at UUFSD in the Palmer Library (one floor above the restrooms, in the building to the right of the central stairway from the parking lot)
the 2nd Monday Book Club will be discussing the memoir

Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood by Alexandra Fuller (2001).

From 1972 to 1990, Alexandra Fuller, known to friends and family as Bobo, grew up on several farms in southern and central Africa.
Her mother flung herself into their African life and its rugged farmwork with the same maniacal energy she brought to everything. She taught her daughters, by example, to be resilient and self-sufficient. Little Bobo grows up feeling completely African. Only after growing up can she understand that her family were white settlers and that she can never be truly African.

Climate Conversations

Here’s a solution for climate anxiety: tune in to National Public Radio’s “CLIMATE SOLUTIONS WEEK” May 18 - 26. This recurring editorial series focuses on practical responses to climate change. Reporters around the U.S. examine how communities, governments, scientists and individuals are adapting to a warming world.

For example, this week you can listen to:
*how a coalition of communities and towns in conservative UTAH came together to bring renewable energy to the grid in a very unique way
*how MONTANA tribes combine their traditional knowledge and western science to enact a climate plan focused on long term resilience

The theme this week is “Local Lessons” and it highlights projects that can be replicated elsewhere. The solutions include energy projects, tax incentives, recycling innovations, and nature-based approaches to lowering carbon emissions. All of the Climate Solutions Week stories are archived HERE.

You can learn about hyper local climate solutions when you join the UUFSD Climate Committee on Wednesday, June 3, 7 pm via ZOOM.

Climate Conversations

You’re Invited!
Climate Action Now invites you to a CLIMATE ACTION PARTY on Tuesday, May 19, 4 pm online.

When disinformation is loud and climate becomes a culture war word, how do you keep talking about it and who do you talk to? On May 19, you can learn from some of the best climate communicators around. Listen to DR. KATHARINE HAYHOE, whose values-based approach has opened minds across deep political divides, and BERNADETTE WOODS PLACKY, whose work brings climate change discussions to everyday audiences through local weather coverage.

The conversation will be moderated by Jessica Craven, author of the CHOP WOOD, CARRY WATER SUBSTACK. They will all share which communication strategies are working, how the climate discussion has shifted and how best to navigate conversations in this age of disinformation.

Join the local climate conversation on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 pm when the UUFSD Climate Action Committee meets via ZOOM.
