On Meghan and Harry:
As a mental health therapist, I am called upon to work with people from many different walks of life. I don’t always agree with my clients’ opinions, decisions, or lifestyles. But my role is to look beyond that, to look into their hearts, to hear their struggles and inner pain, to pray for them, to care for them as Jesus would do.
I watched the full interview of Meghan and Harry with Oprah. I heard deep pain and inner struggle. I heard Meghan speak of contemplating su***de. I heard Harry admit that he needed help with his mental health. Mental and emotional issues have nothing whatsoever to do with being rich or poor, famous or unknown. Nor do they have to do with job security, size of home, or social status. Pain is pain, no matter who feels it.
Do I agree with everything Harry and Meghan stand for? No. Nevertheless, I watched and I cried. I applauded their openness to admitting their inner needs and to seeking help. I did not see show-offs or attention seekers. I saw two people sharing their very painful journey.
I realize that many will disagree with my take on the interview. I’m OK with that. If you wish to express your disagreement or your own thoughts, please feel free. I do request that you do so respectfully.
And so I say - thank you Meghan and Harry, for letting the world see that therapy is for anyone who needs it. Thank you for normalizing seeking help for mental and emotional struggles. Thank you for standing up for yourselves and for your children. Your work in moving forward is a message of hope. I will pray for you. And again, I thank you…
