"Run and Run (Christ Is All My Righteousness)" is a modern hymn written in 2024 by contemporary hymn-writers Matt Boswell and Matt Papa.

The song was born out of a desire to revive older, historical reflections on the gospel. The lyrics specifically draw from the famous phrase, โ€œThe law demands but gives me neither feet nor hands, better news the gospel brings: it bids me fly, it gives me wings,โ€ which is often attributed to 18th-century writer John Bunyan (author of The Pilgrimโ€™s Progress).

The Message & Meaning

The Law vs. The Gospel: The first verse highlights that trying to be made right with God by obeying the law only creates a heavy, impossible burden. The law shows you need a savior, but it has no power to save you.

The "Better News": The Gospel replaces the heavy burden of "trying harder" with the wings of faith, reminding believers that Jesus took their shame and condemnation.

No Condemnation: It addresses the accusations of the enemy (or one's own conscience) by standing in the assurance that God has completely forgiven and forgotten the sinner's failures.

The song serves as a lyrical reminder that a believer's standing with God is based entirely on the finished work of Jesus, rather than personal performance. (From the Sing! Hymnal)
