Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood

Heavenly Father, You have created us for a definite purpose. Grant us the grace to know the path You have planned for each of us in this life, and to respond with a generous "Yes".

Make my parish, my home, and my heart fruitful ground for your gift of vocations to the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

May our young men respond to your call with courage and zeal. Stir among them a desire and the strength to be good and holy priests.

We make our prayer for priestly vocations to You, Father; in the Holy Spirit, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meet our Archdiocese of Atlanta seminarians! 👋

This is Ben Houlihan, the 5th of 8 children, from St. Monica's in Duluth, GA. He is currently studying at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.

Check out his advice for other young guys discerning the priesthood:

"I’d say two things. First, it’s easy to underestimate a “sign”. Looking back on my life so far, most of the moments where I’ve felt called wouldn’t raise most people’s eyebrows. It’s easy to think that God will make it abundantly clear if you’re called. However, in my experience, he did just enough to catch my attention and then leave the decision up to me, which leads me to my Archdiocese of Atlanta Vocations Office. Second piece of advice. Nothing bad ever happens when you go out on a limb for God. At best, you discover what He’s truly calling you to. At worst, you demonstrate your trust in Him and discover an alternate path that He’s calling you to."

The priesthood is a calling.

Christ asks of some men the sacrifice of their lives in following him as his more intimate companions. From all eternity, certain men are called to the priesthood. It is a call inscribed in their nature and because of this, is a call that will bring them fulfillment.

Meet our Archdiocese of Atlanta seminarians!

Meet Austin Thomas, from St. Alphonsa Syro Malabar Forane Catholic Church in Loganville. Read his vocation story below!

"I was involved in my parish and a Catholic youth ministry called Anointing Fire throughout high school and college. It really helped me deepen my relationship with Jesus. I was able to go out, minister, and help give the love of God to other youth just like me at different retreats. As my personal relationship began to deepen, I felt this invitation to the priesthood as I would spend time going to Mass or in Adoration. I took a gap year after I graduated college to discern deeper and just do ministry work in Anointing Fire. It helped me spend more time in prayer and gain clarity in what the Lord was asking of me. Now, I am here!"

Meet our Archdiocese of Atlanta seminarians!

Anthony Carosone, from St. John Vianney in Lithia Springs, tells his vocation story:

"If I had to sum up my vocation story, I would say that I ran from the lord for a long time and didn’t know how to let him love me for who I am. After two compelling moments in my life, namely going to confession as a teenager after a very long time and feeling the Lord call me to surrender to his will for my life during a profound moment in a holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament, I decided that maybe God was calling me to be a priest in his church. I came face to face with the God who loves me, and I couldn’t feel anything else in my heart except to give myself over to him as, hopefully, one day by His grace, a priest modeled after his own heart."

Join us in praying the final day of the St. John Vianney Novena! 🙏

St. John Vianney, from a young age you had a great devotion to our Blessed Mother, relying constantly on her intercession. In doing so you recognized Mary as your mother and realized that through your devotion to Mary you in turn gave full devotion to Her Son. Help our priests become devoted to our Blessed Mother and encourage active devotion to her by all the faithful.

Encourage those who are discerning to also accept Mary as their mother and seek her intercession. As Christ entrusted Mary to be the Mother of the Church, let all priest and those discerning receive Mary as their Mother and fly unto her protection in times of need.

Believing in the power of your kind intercession, we humbly ask you to pray for us and the special intention we are hoping God will grant us through this novena (here mention your special intention).
