Smithville Church Of Christ

Smithville Church Of Christ History of the Smithville Congregation

In the early 1930s, a young preacher, Tillit Teddlie, and his uncle came to Smithville at the invitation of Mrs. N.E.

Cannon and Mr. and Mrs. Gary, to hold a gospel meeting on a vacant lot on Main Street. Later, Mr. Willie Rosanky purchased a lot on the corner of Fifth and Turney Streets. With the help of Walter and Adoph Rosanky and others, they constructed a small frame building and in 1933 began holding worship services as the Smithville Church of Christ. For several years the pulpit was filled by preachers wh

o came from Austin. But when J.W. Akin, a well-known Christian leader from Dallas, came to Smithville to visit his niece, Dorothy Kemp Renick, in the late 1940s, he saw that the church had several needs. His visit resulted in a grant from the Akin Foundation to expand of our building. The Foundation continued to support the work here making it possible for us to employ our first full-time minister, Robert Hamilton. The congregation, continuing to meet at Turney Street, became self-supporting around 1960. As the church grew, the building at 1416 E. Whitehead was constructed in 1985. Classrooms were added and, in 2003, the new fellowship hall, kitchen, classrooms and restrooms were built. Other preachers over the years included J. Edward Weems, Alex Wied, Don Lemmons, H.B. Gresser, David Johnson, Frazier Conley, Donald Adams, Mike Conley, Bobby Cullum, John Cliver, Jim Brewer, Bob Hamil, Richard Pruitt (1989-2005), Rocky Moncus (2005-2008), Chris Maher (2008-2013) and Dan Boggs, (2013-2015). Our current minister, Darroll Wright began here in November, 2015. We give God the thanks and the glory for the accomplishments that have been realized, and earnestly seek His continued guidance and blessings.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. (1 Peter 4:10-11,NKJV) 'As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.'
As we enter into relationship with Christ and seek first His kingdom, we begin to recognize the gift(s) God has given us. We all must make the courageous choice to offer those gifts for the good of others and for His glory. Lord Jesus, may our hearts stand ever ready to ignite and move us into action as you show us opportunities to serve you. Holy Spirit, please lead us in obedience to Christ always - and press out of us the gifts we are meant to offer to the glory of God. God bless you all.
May God bless the Reading of His Word.

Daily Prayer
Heavenly Father, The safe light falls, heralding a new day The warm blush carries your everlasting promise, I soak in the grace you give at the dawn of each morning. With the sun, hope also rises To cast light into the darkness. Sweet songs flow from skies Emerging in the hazy glow. Sounds of comfort That lead us to wonder again at the beauty all around. A taste of Heaven is poured into each new dawn. We are reminded of new birth, Of your redeeming love And with this wake up call, Each and everyone can trust in The promise of eternity And carry its gentle presence into the day anew. God bless you all.
In Jesus Holy Name I pray, Amen.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. When It Is Right to Disobey.
(Acts 5:29,NKJV)'But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.’ To God be the Glory.
Learned the importance God places on obedience to various authorities. And an appropriate question is whether there is ever a time when we draw the line when it comes to obeying men.
In the Book of Acts, Peter and John got in trouble for preaching Christ. In Acts 5:29, when they were told not to preach anymore, Peter answered and said this, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”
That is where you draw the line. If you are ever asked to do something that would cause you to be disobedient to God or that would cause you to violate your conscience (not your preference, but your conscience), that is where you draw the line. Paul made a statement that he lived in good conscience before God and before men. Your conscience deals with things you truly believe in your heart are morally right and wrong. If you go against your conscience in one of those things, then that is sin. Stand your ground when it comes to conscience and obedience to God. If people ask you to do something that violates either of these two things, then it is time to take a stand for what you know is right. For example, in many nations of the world, it is illegal to share your faith. It is illegal to win people to Christ. But Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, (Mark 16:15, NKJV).”
We have an allegiance to a higher authority. And when the authorities are telling us to do something that would cause us to disobey God, we obey God, not man. God bless you all.
May God bless the Reading of His Word.

Daily Prayer
'Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Father 'our lives haven’t turned out the way we expected. At times we’re equally grateful, tired, and full of questions. Teach us, Father, how to be our strength in our weakness. Show us, how to not be afraid of tomorrow; and to believe that you are in control of all things. Remind us, your grace is enough. Meet us in our expectations. Fill us with your joy, fill us with peace, and let our lives brim over with hope. Provide us with what we need, when we need it, to make it through this. Give us the eyes we need to see how you are working everything out for our good. God, help us to be brave and not give up. Keep us looking to you when we feel like we can’t anymore. May our eyes and heart always be expecting you to get here soon, to revive us. In Jesus Holy Name I Pray, Amen.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. Humble your self in the sight of the Lord, for He will lift you up.
To God be the Glory.
Psalms 69: 29-33, NKJV. 'But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bull, Which has horns and hooves. The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live. For the Lord hears the poor, And does not despise His prisoners.'
God bless you all.
May God Bless the Reading of His Word.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. Our God is a awesome God. To Him be the glory.
(I Peter 3:17-22,NKJV)' 17,For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18.For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19.by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20.who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21.There is also an anti type which now saves us, baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22,who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.' God blessings to all.
May God Bless the Reading of his Word.

Daily Prayer
Our Father in Heaven, grant us courage and hope through our times of suffering for doing good. Holy Spirit, lead us into doing the good that God has planned for us to do that we would be able to do the will of our Father in Heaven like Jesus did. Lord, it is through Your resurrection alone that we are able to live by Your Spirit, and not by our flesh. Thank you for Your Grace that pursues as we imperfectly work out our salvation and try to live giving You all the honor and praise and glory! You are the author of our lives! May we lose ourselves in Your great love as You write life on our hearts. In Jesus Holy name I pray, Amen.

Good Brothers and Sisters. Be generous and do good. To God be the Glory.
(Galatian's 6:7-9, NKJV) Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. God bless you all.
May God bless the Reading of His Word.

Daily Prayer.
Heavenly Father. We thank you Father. Joy is a gift You offer us each day. I pray that we can be in your presents today, and let You Father be the source of our joy. I pray that it can overflow to others around us so they can experience the same joy and hope that only comes from You our Father. You are the only sores of our Salvation. In Jesus Holy name I Pray, Amen.

Good morning Brothers and Sisters. God purposed all of us to (Be a Bringer)!
To God be the glory.
Think of a close friend. They’re probably a person that you spend the most time with, who knows you better than most people, and who you can count on. Spending time with your friend is fun, comfortable, and you feel a sense of joy when you’re in their presence. When you serve together, you have an opportunity to further your friendship with someone else by inviting them to join you. In fact, Scripture even tells us that we should “consider how we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). Serving others allows us to not just say we love and care for other people, but to actually show it! New experiences bring people together, and when individuals get out of their comfort zone together, relationships get stronger. When two people work alongside each other( Ecclesiastes 4:9) says “they will have a good return for their labor.” You can accomplish much more in a shorter amount of time when you work with someone else and God will honor your hard work. Serving together provides a great opportunity to build new friendships or to further establish the friendships you already have. So, why not invite them to something that can change a life, impact a community, and even create some memories in the process? (Hebrews 10:24-25)'And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. '
“Let’s not just be hearers of the Word. We are commanded do it!” God Bless You all
May God bless the reading of His Word.
