Most people do not struggle to remember who hurt them.

We remember the words. The betrayal. The disappointment. The wounds can stay with us for years.

What we often forget is how much we have been forgiven.

In Matthew 18, Jesus tells the story of a servant who was forgiven a debt he could never repay. Yet when someone owed him far less, he refused to show the same mercy.

A spirit of unforgiveness is often a sign of something deeper. It reveals that we have lost sight of the grace we have received.

This does not mean the hurt was small. It does not mean trust is instantly restored. It does not mean the wound was not real.

It means the cross is bigger.

Today, instead of replaying what someone else has done to you, spend a moment thanking God for what Christ has done for you.

How might remembering His mercy change the way you see that person?

Is there someone you've decided you'll never forgive?

Not because the hurt wasn't real.

Not because the wound wasn't deep.

But because you simply don't think you can.

Corrie ten Boom felt the same way.

What she discovered is that when God calls us to forgive, He also provides the strength to do it.

Maybe the first step isn't trying harder.

Maybe it's asking for help.

We are often quick to magnify the sins of others while minimizing our own.

That's why Jesus points us back to the mercy we've received.

Forgiveness is not pretending the wound wasn't real.

It's remembering that Christ has forgiven a debt we could never repay—and allowing that truth to shape how we respond to others.

What is one thing about forgiveness that you've misunderstood?

06/17/2026

Forgiveness is not saying the hurt was small.

It is not pretending trust is instantly restored.

It is not forgetting what happened.

But when we remember the debt Christ forgave on our behalf, it becomes harder to hold onto the debts of others.

The gospel does not minimize our wounds.
It magnifies God's mercy.

The cross changes how we see every offense.

Not because the hurt against us was small.

But because the debt Christ forgave was immeasurable.

The gospel does not erase justice.
The gospel empowers forgiveness.

"Forgive and forget" isn't possible.

But by God's grace, forgive and restore is.

Most people know the story of the Good Samaritan.

What is easy to miss is that the priest and the Levite saw the same need the Samaritan saw.

They just kept walking.

Jesus was not teaching us how to identify our neighbor. He was teaching us how to love one.

Too often, we see people as interruptions. A burden on our time. A cost to our comfort. A problem for someone else to solve.

But Jesus never treated people that way.

When He saw the hurting, He moved toward them.

This week, ask God to open your eyes. Look for the person He has placed in your path. Then do more than notice them.

Stop.
Show mercy.

Love has no loopholes (Luke 10:25-37).

06/12/2026

Sometimes the greatest barrier to loving others isn't hatred.

It's convenience.

What keeps you from stopping when someone needs help?

The priest saw.
The Levite saw.
The Samaritan saw.

The issue was never visibility.

It was willingness.

Love has no loopholes (Luke 10:25-37)

The world says: “Protect yourself.”

Jesus says: “Deny yourself.”

Joy doesn't come from protecting your comfort.

It comes from obedience to Christ.
