Another Ranger hike in the books! Camp Pearson once again welcomed us with a beautiful day and a real adventure. The Rangers hiked to the highest point and took in the scenery, along with finding numerous interesting things along the way like a huge deer bed and a tree growing inside of a tree! We can’t wait to go back and see what else we can discover!

Camp out!

Updated.

Our camp out was a blast!

We enjoyed a hearty meal of burgers and Mac and cheese. Of course marshmallows for dessert. We then enjoyed a late night hike on the trails spotting spiders in the leaves. Their shiney eyes in the lamp light give them away. Then Chief Randy led us in a devotional before we went off to bed.

Last night was a chilly one but we warmed up by the fire early this morning. For breakfast we made sausage patties and pancakes over the fire. After cleaning up the camp site and packing away our things the Rangers enjoyed a scavenger hunt followed by a knots class and practical training sessions. Ask your Ranger to demonstrate a few knots they learned.

Thank you all for your generous donations for food and having our Ranger participate in yet another unforgettable experience.

Apologies for the late post. Congratulations to last months Ranger of the Month, Ranger Raylin!

The Rangers had a great time this evening recreating a dam break. We built a dam in our creek downstream from a “village” of small wooden planks. Then we removed the dam and saw first hand the effects of flash flooding downstream. Scale models are a great way to demonstrate natural disasters.

With heat reaching over 90 this week it’s dangerous for anyone to be active outside. Be mindful of humidity and sun exposure. If you need to be outside here are some tips. Rangers need this information to stay safety minded while in the heat.

Play in water
Let kids run through a sprinkler, play limbo with a hose, or toss water balloons. You can also set up a slip and slide in the yard.

Play in the shade
Shade sails can keep play areas 18 degrees cooler, allowing kids to play longer and have more fun.

Limit outdoor activity
Avoid playing outside during the hottest part of the day, like midday, and instead play in the morning or evening when it's cooler.

Stay hydrated
Encourage kids to drink water before, during, and after physical activity, even if they aren't thirsty. You can add fruit or juice to their water to make it taste better.

Protect from the sun
Have kids wear loose, light-colored clothing and reapply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50 that's water-proof.

What a day. Life Rangers was honored to perform a flag retirement ceremony for the Alexandria Senior Citizens Center. First the Rangers changed the flag flying over the senior center, and soon after 15 national ensigns were retired, along with numerous state flags. The Rangers mingled with veterans and other members of the community as our gracious hosts blessed the troop with a hotdog lunch. Ice cream sandwiches and brownies made for a welcome dessert in this heat. It’s sure to be a day the Rangers, and those in attendance won’t soon forget.
