Sharing God’s Love
“Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. He that does not love, does not know God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8
As I witness some of the recent events that are happening throughout the world, I find myself asking the question, “What can we do to make things better?” Like many of you, I feel the pain, anger, and frustration of the racial tensions in our country, and I sense the despair and hopelessness of some many people who suffer through the COV-ID19 global pandemic. But I have come to realize that the answers can only be found in God’s word. During these difficult times, our faith becomes an anchor to strengthen us and to help us endure the circumstances of life.
The one thing I see that is most needed in these times is LOVE. The scriptures teach us that it was through the love of God that we are forgiven of our sins and receive the gift of eternal life. (John 3:16-17) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, was a victim of hate and yet He choose to not respond in hate but in love. From the place of his pain (the cross of Calvary), he offered forgiveness to his persecutors. (Luke 23:34) In these times of racial tension, we must ask God to help us to respond in love and not hate. We must ask God to give us the grace to forgive.
In John 4, the writer encourages the disciples of Christ to love each other and to extend love to those within their community. These words are also uttered from Jesus Christ as he taught his disciples to love God with all their hearts, minds, and souls; and to love their neighbors in the same way that they love their own self. (Matthew 22: 34-40)
