Calvary Baptist Church was born by the Holy Spirit through prayer and seeking the Will of God. After many weeks of special prayer meetings, it was determined that a work dedicated to the glory of God would be established with God’s leading. On Sunday, August 5, 1990, the first worship services were held for Calvary Baptist Church in the Carrollton Ruritan building. There were 52 present in Sunday
School, 70 in morning worship, and 62 in evening worship. The first Wednesday night prayer meeting had over 50 in attendance. It was very evident, not only from the number that attended but also the very real presence and power of Christ, that this work had the blessing of God. The church held organizational services on Sunday, September 9, 1991. CBC was chartered and adopted a constitution and by-laws. In October 1991, the church purchased ten acres of land on Turner Drive in Smithfield. The land was paid off in October 1992, and the church voted to build a 4800 sq. ft plot that would have Sunday School classes and an auditorium. The church built a second building in 1999, having additional classrooms and a fellowship hall. Plans are underway for additions to be made to our plot. CBC is striving to reach every person with the gospel. Our church is very committed to a Bible approach to capturing our Jerusalem and the regions beyond. In addition to our Worship service, we have a growing Sunday School, a strong youth ministry, a good music program, a Faith-Promise Missions program, Bus Ministry, Soul-Winning ministry, and Men and Ladies Fellowships. We are very much a family-oriented church. We believe that our best days are ahead of us as we seek the Lord together. May we prayerfully seek to evangelize, edify, and encourage one another in the Lord’s work.
