Before the glitz and the glam of the Recovery Alive Gala, John Eklund sat down with Beverly Vance Aikins to hear the stories behind her story. From taking her young children to meetings to taking the stage at the request of her son, Vice President JD Vance, Beverly shares behind the scenes stories of her journey of surviving in addiction to thriving in recovery. The perfect blend of comedy, drama and inspiration just as Beverly Vance Aikins herself is the perfect blend of witty, honest and sincere.

Today I had the opportunity to attend the Harnett County Opioid Task Force meeting, and I left once again thankful for this county and the heart they have for recovery and for Recovery Alive Homes.

What made today even more special was having Morgan there with me. Morgan is a living, walking testimony of what support, opportunity, and community can do. She has walked her recovery journey in Harnett County, lived at Journey’s Door, and today she was able to sit at the table and represent what can happen when people in recovery are supported, encouraged, and given a chance to rebuild their lives.

We are incredibly thankful for Harnett County, for the way they support Recovery Alive Homes, and for the seat we have at the table. Even more, we are grateful that our voice—and the voices of the people we serve—are valued and heard.

Recovery happens in community, and we are grateful to be part of one that believes in it. 💜
