🇺🇸 Help Us Honor Louisiana’s World War II Veterans 🇺🇸

As we approach the anniversary of the February 23, 1945 flag raising on Iwo Jima, the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs wants to honor the members of the World War II generation who are still living in Louisiana today.

We’re asking families, friends, and communities across Louisiana to share a comment or post honoring their World War II Veteran so others can help celebrate them too.

📸 What to include in your comment or post:
-A photo of the Veteran
-Their name
-Branch of service
-Rank (if known)
-A favorite memory, story, or reflection

Leave a comment, 🏷️ Tag us, or use so we can help share their story.

This generation answered the call when the world needed them most. Let’s honor them — now, while we still can.

We were honored to have members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. participate in Wreaths Across America on Saturday as we came together to remember and honor our nation’s veterans.

Pictured are Barry Robinson Sr., retired Training Director for the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, and Tony Atkins, a retired veteran who is currently employed at the New Orleans VA Medical Center.

Also pictured are members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., standing together in service and remembrance.

🌲 Today is the Day — Wreaths Across America 🌲

Today, communities across the country are coming together to remember and honor our nation’s veterans. If your local veterans cemetery is placing wreaths as part of Wreaths Across America, we encourage you to attend, volunteer, or take a moment to reflect.

We have over 3,500 wreaths to place today, come out and join us to show your respect to those who have earned it.

Each wreath represents gratitude, respect, and a promise that our veterans will never be forgotten 🇺🇸

Thank you to the volunteers, families, and supporters who help make this meaningful tribute possible.

The holiday season brings joy for many, but it can also be an incredibly difficult time for some in our military and veteran community.
Some are facing their first holiday without a loved one.
Some are deployed or have a loved one deployed.
Others may be feeling the weight of loneliness, stress, or grief.

As part of the Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Su***de Among Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families, we are sharing this updated Louisiana SMVF Resource Card to ensure every service member, veteran, and family member knows that support is here — 24/7.

Please save and share this resource card. You never know who might need it today.

If you or someone you know needs help:
📞 Dial 988, then Press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line
📱 Call 225-219-5000 for LDVA assistance

This holiday season, let’s check on one another, lift up those who may be struggling, and remind our military and veteran families that they are not alone — not during the holidays, and not ever.

This Thanksgiving, our hearts are especially full.

Across every corner of Louisiana, people come together to honor, uplift, and support those who served. To our community partners, veteran organizations, and the families who stand behind our heroes—your kindness and loyalty mean more than words.

To our LDVA staff, thank you for showing up with compassion, dignity, and purpose. Your work changes lives.

And to our veterans and their families: you are the heartbeat of this department. Your courage, resilience, and sacrifice remind us what true service looks like.

From our LDVA family to yours—Happy Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with peace, warmth, and gratitude. 🍂🇺🇸
