Last week, on Pentecost Sunday, we began “Energized for Mission” by celebrating the arrival of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church’s Spirit-powered witness. This week, we continue with “First Things First,” based on Acts 1:6-14.
Before the disciples rushed into action, they waited on Jesus, gathered together, and devoted themselves to prayer.
Join us as we discover why prayer is not what the Church does when there’s nothing else to do — it’s where mission begins.

Love is a very curious thing. When you love someone, there are often a number of things we generally want to do quite naturally. We want to help them, serve them, bless them, make them happy to have you in their lives. In fact, we may even take requests we would never otherwise take. Today, Jesus says, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." What's that about?

There's something about greatness that captivates our attention. We watch great feats of skill and strength. We watch great feats of human intelligence and ingenuity. We are fascinated by the stories of those that achieve greatness in a variety of forms. But rarely do we seem to notice what Jesus says in today's Gospel reading. He says something shocking. After all the incredible things he has done, he tells his disciples, and whoever will believe in him, that they will do, "greater works than these..." What does that mean?!
