Ignite Ministry we formed our Ministry based around our trials during our children time in the NICU along with the blessing received from God during our darkest hours. Both of our sons spent weeks in the Neonatal ICU where we almost lost our youngest son, Dexter, who was suffering from transient tachypnea which is the medical term for "Water on the lungs". Dexter couldn't get his lungs cleared due
to being premature. He went into the NICU 12 hours after birth. While in the NICU, he was on a CPAP machine that they ensured us would help clear the water off his lungs. While on the CPAP both of his tiny lungs collapsed. The Doctor on duty was not supposed to be on that night, when he rushed into the room he told me "Your son has what is called a pneumothorax, you need to go to the waiting room so I can work on your son." Pneumothorax is where there is build up of air around the lungs, and commonly known as "collapsed lungs". The specialist had to do surgery on Dexter and put 2 chest tubes into his lungs, to keep his lungs inflated, he was also put on a ventilator. We were told to "prepare ourselves". We had no idea what they meant when they kept telling us to prepare ourselves, and that we "should make arrangements". We didn't have a home church at the time, and no one from the hospital stopped by to pray with us. We had family and friends praying for Dexter but no real spiritual guidance. Our son made it through by the Grace and Healing of God. Now 5 years later, Dexter is a happy, normal 5 year old boy. He loves playing outside and minecraft. He also had 2 scars on his chest that he calls his "lucky scars" because he wants to be like Nemo (who has a lucky fin). Years later I entered the Ministry called by God to serve, and having a special calling to use my experiences to help others. We formed Ignite Ministry and specifically NICU Ministry to help families going through what should be a joyous occasion but with little information and a lot of stress can be one of the most difficult times in their lives.
