What does the church look like when it is actually working?
Acts 2:42-47 gives us the complete blueprint. The apostles' teaching. Fellowship. Breaking of bread. Prayer. Generosity. Glad and grateful hearts. A community so compelling that people were being saved day by day.
Pastor Jim Peck opens up one of the most important passages in the entire New Testament and tackles the question every generation of Christians has had to wrestle with. Are we building the church according to God's blueprint, or have we drifted from it?
We also take a hard look at verses 44 and 45, the ones communists have cited for centuries to support their ideology, and discover what was actually going on in Jerusalem. It has nothing to do with government coercion and everything to do with one word.
Generosity.
Come experience it in person this Sunday at Finger Lakes Reformed Church.

"Before the Power Came, They Prayed" | Acts 1:12โ€“26 | Pastor Jim Peck | Sharon Reformed Church

What do you do when you are outnumbered, under-resourced, and waiting on God to move? In this week's sermon from Acts 1:12โ€“26, Pastor Jim Peck walks us through one of the most overlooked passages in the entire book of Acts โ€” the ten days between the ascension of Jesus and the day of Pentecost โ€” and shows us that what happened in that upper room was not accidental. It was sovereign preparation.
Opening with the remarkable true story of the Dunkirk evacuation and the National Day of Prayer that preceded it, Pastor Jim draws a powerful connection between a nation on its knees in 1940 and the 120 disciples gathered in prayer in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. The parallels will leave you speechless.
In this message you will discover:
โœ”๏ธ Why the church begins not at Pentecost but in a quiet upper room
โœ”๏ธ What a Sabbath day's journey tells us about obedience
โœ”๏ธ Why corporate prayer is the most powerful resource the church has
โœ”๏ธ What the number 120 reveals about the nature of the church
โœ”๏ธ How Peter leads through crisis by opening Scripture instead of calling a strategy meeting
โœ”๏ธ The warning of Judas โ€” and what it means for us today
โœ”๏ธ Why the apostolic office is closed and what that means for modern claims of apostleship
โœ”๏ธ What the Greek word Kardiognostes reveals about how God selects leaders
โœ”๏ธ Why casting lots was never about chance โ€” and why it was never done again after Pentecost
โœ”๏ธ Why women in the upper room was one of the most radical moments in first century history
Whether you are a lifelong believer or just beginning to explore the Christian faith, this message will challenge you, encourage you, and call you back to the one thing the church cannot afford to neglect โ€” prayer.

What a day of joy in the life of the Church.
This past Lordโ€™s Day, we had the privilege of receiving 15 new members into Sharon Reformed Church through reaffirmation of faith. These brothers and sisters from our Finger Lakes campus publicly declared what God has already done in their hearts.
This is not about numbers. This is about the Lord building His Church.
Each one has stood before God and His people to confess, Jesus Christ is Lord. They have committed themselves to sit under the faithful proclamation of Godโ€™s Word, to partake in the sacraments, and to walk in fellowship with the saints. In a day when commitment is rare, this is something worth celebrating.
We give thanks to God for what He is doing not only in Sharon Springs, but also through our Finger Lakes campus. This is kingdom multiplication. This is the Gospel bearing fruit.
Church, let this stir us, not settle us.
Who is your ?
To God alone be the glory.

The orders have been given. The mission is clear.

In Acts 1:1-11 Luke opens the Book of Acts with one of the most powerful passages in all of Scripture. Forty days of preparation. A promise of Holy Spirit power.

The ascension on the Shekinah glory cloud. Angels standing beside eleven speechless men from Galilee. And at the center of it all, Acts 1:8, the Great Commission that changes everything.
Jesus does not ask His church to wait forever. He asks His church to go.

In this message Pastor Jim Peck preaches expositionally through Acts 1:1-11 and brings the full weight of the Great Commission to bear on the church today. Key verse: Acts 1:8.

"Stop waiting. Start witnessing."

NEW SERMON SERIES STARTS THIS SUNDAY

How the Church Changed the World: A Study Through Acts

Two thousand years ago, a small band of ordinary men received the Holy Spirit, stepped out of an upper room, and turned the entire world upside down.

This Sunday, we begin an in-depth expository journey through the Book of Acts, one of the most explosive, Spirit-filled, and world-shaking books in all of Scripture.

Week by week, verse by verse, we will trace the footsteps of the early church through persecution, miracles, bold preaching, and unstoppable mission, and discover what God is still calling His church to do today.
