In Matthew 9:9–13, 18–26, Jesus Christ shows that following Him is a call to trust, surrender, and faith beyond comfort or status. When Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to leave everything and follow Him, Matthew responds immediately, showing that discipleship begins with obedience and a willingness to change. Jesus then teaches that He came not for the self-righteous but for sinners, revealing that following Him means recognizing our need for mercy and extending compassion to others.

In the stories of the ruler seeking healing for his daughter and the woman who touched Jesus’ garment in faith, Jesus demonstrates that true followers trust Him even in desperate situations, believing He has power over sickness, fear, and even death. Together, these passages remind us that Jesus wants us to follow Him with faith, humility, and confidence that He meets us where we are and transforms our lives.

Join us on Sunday May 31 as we celebrate Trinity Sunday.

Trinity Sunday is an invitation to meditate on an unfathomable mystery—that God is a divine community of love. It emphasizes that God does not exist in isolation, but rather in an eternal relationship of giving and receiving love, which Christians are invited to participate in and share with the world.

We will be together in John 16:12–15.

In John 16:12-15, Jesus Christ tells His disciples that they are not yet ready to understand everything He wants to teach them. He promises that the Holy Spirit, called the “Spirit of truth,” will come after Him and guide them into a fuller understanding of God’s truth. Jesus explains that the Spirit will not speak independently but will reveal what comes from the Father and the Son, glorifying Jesus by helping believers understand His teachings and mission.

The passage emphasizes the unity between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and reassures believers that God continues to guide and teach His people through the Spirit.

Join us in this Sunday May 17th at Friendly United Methodist at 9:30 am or at Sistersville First United Methodist Church at 11 am.

We will journey together in the Book of Acts in Acts 16:16-34.

Acts 16:16–34 shows that following Jesus can involve real opposition, but God is still at work even in difficult circumstances. Paul and Silas respond to injustice not with panic or revenge, but with prayer and worship, reminding us that faith can remain steady in hardship. The jailer’s story highlights that God’s grace can reach anyone, even those who seem far away, and that genuine faith leads to a changed life.

This passage encourages us to trust God in trials, respond with faith instead of fear, and believe that He can use our situations to impact others.

Also join us at Friendly UMC at 12:30 on Sunday May 17th for a FREE Community Dinner!
