In Matthew 9:9–13, 18–26, Jesus Christ shows that following Him is a call to trust, surrender, and faith beyond comfort or status. When Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to leave everything and follow Him, Matthew responds immediately, showing that discipleship begins with obedience and a willingness to change. Jesus then teaches that He came not for the self-righteous but for sinners, revealing that following Him means recognizing our need for mercy and extending compassion to others.
In the stories of the ruler seeking healing for his daughter and the woman who touched Jesus’ garment in faith, Jesus demonstrates that true followers trust Him even in desperate situations, believing He has power over sickness, fear, and even death. Together, these passages remind us that Jesus wants us to follow Him with faith, humility, and confidence that He meets us where we are and transforms our lives.
