Most Reverend Mark E. Brennan, in consultation with Very Rev. Paul Puthuva, VC, provincial superior of the Vincentian Congregation in Kerala, India, has announced that Father Joseph Abraham, VC, is appointed administrator of Mater Dolorosa Parish in Paden City, Holy Rosary Mission in Sistersville, St. Vincent de Paul Parish in New Martinsville, and St. Joseph Mission in Proctor with residence at the parish rectory in New Martinsville, effective June 19, 2024.
Msgr. Kevin Quirk, who requested a transfer to a new assignment earlier this year, has been assigned to the Parochial Cluster in the Greenbrier Valley, led by the parishes of St. Charles Borromeo in White Sulphur Springs and St. Catherine of Siena in Ronceverte.
Msgr. Quirk said "I look forward to serving the Catholic Community in the Greenbrier Valley and making use of the many lessons I learned about leading a cluster of parishes, missions, and chapels from you all, who have been very effective teachers. I thank you for the compassion shown to me when I first came to the parishes, for the great kindness have shown to my brother Sean, for your care of your parishes, and your outstanding commitment to works of charity on behalf of the poor. My last weekend here will be – perhaps fittingly – Fathers Day, 16 June 2024 and while no farewell celebration is necessary, I do hope each Parish will do something to welcome Father Abraham after each Mass on the weekend of 23 June 2024. Father Abraham has greatly desired an appointment as a parish priest, following his service as Chaplain at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and in residence at St. Mary Parish, Star City. I am certain he will be a very good pastor to you all."

A plenary indulgence is a grace granted by the Catholic Church through the merits of Jesus to remove temporal punishment due to sin.

The Church gives significance to each day of the week. Recall these as you pray for special intercessors and mindfulness.

Sunday: The Holy Trinity – the first day of the week and the day when we offer God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit our praise, adoration, and thanksgiving.

Monday: The Angels – powerful guardians, and each of us is protected by one. Many of the saints had a great devotion to the angels in general and to their guardian angel in particular.

Tuesday: The Apostles – The Catholic Church is apostolic- founded on the authority and teaching of the apostles, most especially that of St. Peter. Each bishop is a direct successor of the apostles.

Wednesday: Saint Joseph – chief patron of the Church. As the earthly father of Jesus, he had a special role in protecting, providing for, and instructing Jesus during his earthly life. Now that Christ is ascended into heaven, St. Joseph continues his fatherly guardianship of Christ’s body, the Church.

Thursday: The Holy Eucharist – Our Lord instituted the most holy Eucharist on a Thursday, so it is fitting that we remember this greatest of sacraments on this day. The Eucharist is the greatest gift of God to mankind, as it is nothing less than Jesus himself.

Friday: The Passion – Jesus was scourged, mocked, and crucified on a Friday. Because of this, the Church has always set aside Fridays of days of penance and sacrifice. This day should always be a day of repentance and a day in which we recall Christ’s complete self-sacrifice to save us from our sins.

Saturday: Our Lady – There are a number of reasons, perhaps the most significant is that on Holy Saturday, when everyone else had abandoned Christ in the tomb, she was faithful to him, confidently waiting for his resurrection on the first day of the week.
