“The Infinite Expectation of Dawn” with Rev. Mark Richards. Join us 10AM onsite this Sunday OR watch online with this direct link to our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyPRxmn-iiV1V5mJDlDqc2A

Rev. Richards illuminates, “When this madness ends – and I must have faith that it will – our nation will have the opportunity to reimagine how we want to live together. Communities, once formed for the purpose of survival, now play an important role in how we identify ourselves. The current model is being torn down as we speak. Yet there is hope in that. At some point we will start to rebuild. Those of us who envision a world that works for everyone need to begin a clear articulation of what that may look like. Using UU values as our foundation, we’ll explore some ways to transform that which we have into that which we need.”

Did you know, Clara Barton (1821–1912), founder of the American Red Cross, was a UU! Her quote, "active service is better than passive sympathy," is very fitting for the mission of this new position we are hiring:

“A Sacred Call to Remember: Juneteenth Through a Lens of Faith” with Tracey C. Robertson. Join us 10AM onsite this Sunday OR watch online with this direct link to our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyPRxmn-iiV1V5mJDlDqc2A

Service Leader: Jan Frystak - Piano: Beth Coleman

In this powerful and reflective talk, Tracey C. Robertson invites audiences into a deeper understanding of Juneteenth—not just as a historical milestone, but as a sacred call to truth, justice, and collective responsibility. Designed especially for faith communities seeking to engage with honesty and compassion, this conversation explores the spiritual significance of delayed freedom and the role we all play in honoring it.

Through storytelling, historical context, and personal reflection, Tracey creates space for meaningful dialogue about race, remembrance, and what it means to live out our shared values in real and tangible ways. This is not about guilt—it is about awareness, connection, and the courage to grow.

Following the talk, Tracey will be offering copies of her powerful micro-memoir, Growing Up Stained—a story of childhood trauma, truth-telling, and healing. Her work invites readers to confront difficult truths while holding space for resilience, restoration, and hope. Come ready to listen, reflect, and be transformed.

Do we ever think about oak trees? Maybe occasionally. How about blue jays? Again, maybe every once in a while. We probably do think about grandmothers more frequently. But do we ever recognize that all of us, all the above, are interrelated?
Darwin not only introduced the idea of evolution to our awareness but he also stated a second idea, the relatedness of all life forms, that, I would guess, few of us have ever heard about, let alone considered. Yet Indigenous people around the world have believed in the relatedness of all life forms as part of their heritage, accepted its validity, and acted accordingly.
It is my hope that most UU’ers, along with future inhabitants of Congress and the White House, will believe in this reality and act accordingly.
Dick Smythe is an entomologist retired from the research division of the US Forest Service. Throughout his life he has maintained two dominant interests: first, his fascination with the natural world — our non-human environment and endless source of wonder; second, his abiding interest in religion/theology — a subject of continuing education and challenge.
