Did you know today the Church celebrates the solemnity of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary?

Today we celebrate him as the husband of the Blessed Mother and as the foster father of Jesus.

May our love and devotion to him increase, and with his intercession, may we imitate his humble "yes" by being faithful to God's will for us.⁣

Saint Joseph pray for us!

In honor of today's solemnity, enjoy a cup of Joe, or consider visiting one of our parishes named after St. Joseph (there are 9 across the diocese) and spend some time in prayer contemplating the life and example of St. Joseph, and thanking God for the foster father of Jesus.

Happy feast of St. Patrick!

Who was St. Patrick?

A lucky Irish leprechaun, as he's often depicted? Or a Catholic bishop who inspired others to a life of holiness?

It might not surprise you to learn that he was not an Irish leprechaun, but in fact a bishop.

Captured from his home of Roman Britain by pirates at the age of 14, Patrick lived as a slave who herded and tended sheep in Ireland until he was 20 years old and escaped his captors. A few years after his return to his home land, a vision prompted him to study the priesthood. He was later ordained and sent back to Ireland to share the Gospel.

At the moment of your baptism, you were infused with graces. Not only were you infused with graces, but God also took you unto himself. In this homily, Bishop explains the reality of what happens to the soul at Baptism and when a baby is consecrated in oil, and how, through the waters of Baptism and holy oils, God pours himself into the heart and soul of the newly baptized.

God is eternal, unchanging and always present. He is the same today as he was at the beginning of time, and every moment in between. Be assured that the same God who spoke the words "I am" to Moses is present and speaking to you today.

The Chrism Mass is a very special Mass for the bishop, priests and faithful of a diocese as the bishop consecrates the oils used for the sacraments over the next year. Pray for Bishop DeGrood and our priests as they gather for Mass this Wednesday to bless the oils and the priests renew their priestly vows.

If you are able, join us at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph at 11:00 a.m. for the Chrism Mass.

In all things give thanks to the Lord. Even in difficult or painful situations or seasons of your life, or when things don't go the way you hoped or planned. Give thanks to God for his goodness and surrender to his perfect will.

Do you find yourself struggling to surrender to God this Lent? Join us in praying St. Francis de Sales Act of Abandonment prayer and give everything over to God today.

O my God, I thank you and I praise
you for accomplishing your holy
and all-lovable will without any regard for mine.
With my whole heart,
in spite of my heart,
do I receive this cross I feared so much!

It is the cross of your choice,
the cross of your love.
I venerate it;
nor for anything in the world
would I wish that it had not come,
since you willed it.

I keep it with gratitude and with joy,
as I do everything that comes from your hand;
and I shall strive to carry it without letting it drag,
with all the respect
and all the affection which your works deserve.

Amen.
