Congratulations to our 2020 Confirmation class of Rylen Pierce, Torianno Kirby, Rachel Flaten, Heather Hemmer, Sam McMillen, and Carsyn Coster! We are so proud of these kids and it has been amazing to see the faith that God is working in their hearts! We didn't get to do our Confirmation dinner together this year, but we set it up so they could do it at home with their families. The kids are holding the puzzles that they put together to represent the faith that was instilled in them by their families and their church that is now their own. God's blessings to all of them!

This year we have 3 High School Seniors: Joe Tisher, Lyric Oslund, and Josh Schlueter. Since we are unable to celebrate with them in our usual way we decided to share some information about each of them.

Today we celebrate Josh Schlueter!

School: Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School

School Activities: Marching band, Jazz band, bowling team
Out of school activities: Zion Youth, Boy Scouts, hunting, fishing, United States Army

What is your favorite memory from high school? Being able to travel with the marching band and all the stuff we got to do.

What is your favorite memory of Zion Youth? The National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis because we got to travel and do a bunch of different things as a group. Going to the concerts was a lot of fun!

Favorite thing about Zion Lutheran Church: Being able to do the activities on Wednesday nights with the youth group.

Favorite Verse: Matthew 5:9 - "blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

What has been the hardest thing about not being able to finish school? Mostly just hanging out with friends and seeing people. I didn’t care as much about the classes, but going out and hanging out with people is fun and that’s what we can’t do anymore every day.

Plans for after graduation: I will be gone for Basic training in July for 10 weeks. Then I will roll right into AIT (Advanced Individual Training) which takes another 12 weeks. That is where I will train as a military police officer. Then we will go to duty stations which will be determined once we are finished with AIT.

Advice for Zion Youth: To be involved and don’t be afraid to talk to people and make them feel included.

School: Harrisburg High School

School Activities: H.O.S.A (Future Health Professionals)

Out of school activities: Zion Youth, worked at the Canton/Inwood Medical Center as a CNA; worked at Air Madness; working on EMT certification

What is your favorite memory from high school? Home Football games

What is your favorite memory of Zion Youth? The National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis and getting to know everybody better while we were there.

Favorite thing about Zion Lutheran Church: Everyone is so welcoming. I met some of my best friends there.

Favorite Verse: Psalm 23

What has been the hardest thing about not being able to finish school? Not getting to see my friends and teacher and not knowing it was our last day when it happened.

Plans for after graduation: Attending Augustana University through their Honors program for Biology Pre-Med major and Chemistry minor. I intend to go into medical school afterwards. I plan to be a part of campus ministry as well.

Advice for Zion Youth: Enjoy what you have right now because you never know when it’s going to be taken away. Example school and all your activities this year : )

Today, we celebrate Joe Tisher!

School: Great Plains Lutheran High School (Watertown)

School Activities: Football, basketball, track, three act play, band (trumpet), choir

Out of school activities: Boy Scouts, Zion Youth
What is your favorite memory from high school? Friday nights in the dorms with my friends!

What is your favorite memory of Zion Youth? I really enjoyed the big events at the National Youth Gathering. Especially when I looked down the row and see our youth group and how we were all together with this large mass of people. That was pretty cool.

Favorite thing about Zion Lutheran: The feel of home. Since I was in Watertown for school, whenever I came back, I just knew it was home.

Favorite Verse: Proverbs 21:31

What has been the hardest thing about not being able to finish school? It’s definitely the fact that my friends went everywhere. Rapid City, Alabama...I don’t get to see those people. I can’t meet up with those people because some live across the country.

Plans for after graduation: Attending SDSU for mechanical engineering and participating in the ROTC program.

Advice for Zion Youth: Enjoy this time while you have it. After this, things get a little more serious : ) The Friday nights in the dorms don’t really happen.
