The Original Betty Boop: Esther Jones, aka Baby EstherEsther Jones, known as "Baby Esther," was a talented African American singer and entertainer in the late 1920s, performing regularly at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem. Her distinctive singing style, featuring playful baby-like sounds, captivated audiences.In 1928, Helen Kane watched Baby Esther’s act and later adopted Jones’s "baby" vocal style for her recording of "I Wanna Be Loved by You." This style went on to inspire the iconic voice of the animated character Betty Boop.
