This week, Associate Karen Anderson reflects on how Jesus is our ultimate safety net even when other relationships fall short.

"In our readings this weekend, love and relationships take center stage. On one hand, Paul reminds us that the commandments are summed up in Jesus’ command to 'love your neighbor as yourself.' We often cherish the familiar image of love as patient, kind, slow to envy, and quick to protect and trust. Yet, in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus offers a realistic counterweight: love and relationships are also hard work.

"Jesus knew that love requires fierce perseverance. Instead of giving up when relationships fracture, he provides a roadmap for reconciliation:
· First, go directly as an individual to seek understanding or repair.
· If that falls short, take someone with you to help bridge the divide.
· If the rift remains, invite the supportive witness of the community to walk alongside you.

"In every step, Jesus urges us never to abandon the effort. It brings to mind Winston Churchill’s famous charge: 'Never give in, never give in, never, never, never give in, in nothing great or small, large or petty—never give in.' Relational love demands that same resolve.

"Yet Jesus offers something Churchill could not: absolute grace for the outcome. Even when a relationship remains broken or falls short of what we hoped, we are not left abandoned. Jesus assures us, 'I am with you.' He is our protector, our guard, and our ultimate safety net. Whether we emerge from our relational efforts bruised and wounded or admired and loved, our standing is secure. We rest in the unwavering assurance of God’s never-ending love and abiding presence."

Today, we remember with gratitude our deceased friends and benefactors of the Order of Preachers. 🙏

We give thanks for the lives they shared with us, the ways they supported our mission, and the many gifts—seen and unseen—that continue to bless our community. May their faith, generosity, and love live on through all that we do.

May they rest in peace, and may we carry their memory with us in prayer. 🕊️

Last night, the state of Florida took the life of Harold Gene Lucas, one of the eight people scheduled for ex*****on this month.

Dear God, we pray for all those affected by this ex*****on:
- For Jill Piper, may she rest in peace in the Kingdom of God. For those that love her dearly and keep her memory.
- For the witnesses, prison staff, media, press, and all others in close proximity to the ex*****on. We especially pray for the lawmakers and those with power to abolish the death penalty in Florida.
- For those that care for Harold and for the repose of his soul.

Lord, may we be guided in these next steps towards total abolition. We end with a verse from the First Letter of Peter: “In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7)

🎓✨ 250 Sisters Who Shaped the USA: Mother Joseph Dunn, OP, PhD ✨

Born in Boonton, New Jersey, in 1885, Mother Joseph Dunn entered the Caldwell Dominican Community in 1902 and spent her early years as a sister teaching at the elementary and high school levels. Elected Mother Superior of the Caldwell Dominican Sisters in 1927, she was re-elected in 1933 and again in 1939 — a testament to the trust her sisters placed in her vision. 🕊️

That same year 1927, she first sought permission to open a women's college in Caldwell, only to be turned down. But Mother Joseph never let go of the dream. Twelve years later, amid the Great Depression and on the eve of war, she and her Council did the impossible: Caldwell College for Women opened its doors on September 22, 1939, with thirty-four students.

As the college's second president, she pushed Dominican sisters toward advanced study, building a faculty as devoted to learning as she was. A lifelong friend of the sisters once said of her: “That quiet, able nun on the hill was a mental match for anyone in the Community.”

Mother Joseph passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 1956, leaving behind a legacy of education, faith, and Dominican spirit that continues to shape Caldwell University today.

A visionary leader and compassionate advocate, Sr. Ursula Joyce, OP, has dedicated her life to responding to the needs of people in her community. As a founding mother of housing and human service organizations, she helped create pathways of support and opportunity for those who needed them most. 🏠

Sr. Ursula’s ministry is rooted in a simple but powerful call to action: “If you see something that needs to be done, KEEP AT IT, KEEP AT IT, KEEP AT IT!” Her words capture the determination, faith, and perseverance that shaped her extraordinary legacy. 🙏✨

Her witness reminds us that meaningful change often begins by simply seeing a need and choosing to respond. Through her leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to others, Sr. Ursula demonstrates the power of persistence and compassionate action to transform communities. 🌿❤️
