Filled to Overflowing

Scripture Focus: “...and to know this love that surpasses
knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the
fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:19)

Suggested reading: Read Ephesians 3:14-21 later today.
God’s goal isn’t just to save you, but to flood you with His own
life.

Paul prayed one of the most audacious prayers in Scripture.
He asked that the Ephesians would know the unknowable
love of Christ and be filled with the “fullness of God.”
He wasn’t asking for a drop; he’s asking for the ocean.

The phrase “surpasses knowledge” is a paradox. We can
know Christ’s love personally, but we can never exhaust it
intellectually. It is wider, longer, higher, and deeper than
our brains can grasp, but not beyond what our hearts can
experience.

This is the scriptural basis for “entire sanctification.” To be
filled with “all the fullness of God” is to be emptied of sin and
filled with love. It is God’s design for every believer, not just
super-saints. God wants to saturate your personality with
His character. Why settle for half-full?
Pray Paul’s prayer for yourself: “Lord, fill me today with all
the fullness of God. Don’t let me be satisfied with a shallow
faith.”

Short Prayer
Lord, Your love is too big for my brain, but not for my heart.
Fill me with Your fullness.
Push out everything that is not of You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Fullness of Christ

Scripture Focus: “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity
lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to
fullness.” (Colossians 2:9-10)

Suggested reading: Read Colossians 2:8-15 later today.

You don’t need Jesus “plus” anything else; He is the whole
package, and in Him, so are you.

False teachers in Colossae claimed that to be truly spiritual,
you needed secret knowledge, angel worship, or harsh
discipline. Paul shouts: NO! Jesus is the “fullness” (plērōma)
of God. If you have Him, you have everything God has.
“Fullness” (plērōma) was a technical term used by Gnostics
for the hierarchy of spiritual beings. Paul hijacks their word.
He says all the divine attributes dwell in Jesus’ physical body.
And amazingly, we are “filled” (peplērōmenoi) in Him.

We are “complete in Him.” We don’t need a second blessing
that is different from Jesus; we need more of Jesus! Entire
sanctification is simply the fullness of Christ filling our
empty hearts. We don’t need new tricks; we need to realize
the treasure we already possess.

Identify one thing you think you “need” to be happy or secure
(success, romance, money). Remind yourself: “In Christ, I
already have fullness.”

Short Prayer
Lord, You are the fullness of God.
In You, I lack nothing.
Save me from chasing empty shadows when I have the
Substance.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Community / Mission Nudge
Share this truth with someone who feels “less than” or
inadequate: “In Christ, you are complete. You are brought to
fullness.”
