In 2 Samuel 1, David receives the news of Jonathan’s and Saul’s deaths. Instead of triumph, he responds with lament, honoring both friend and foe. His grief reveals a heart that trusts God’s justice rather than seizing vindication for himself.
“Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son and for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.” 2 Samuel 1:11-12 ESV
We should trust God’s justice - yes, even with those who try to destroy us - rather than seeking vengeance ourselves.
