Hey Church Family…
My heart has always been for Cornerstone to be a church family that shares life, even the hard stuff. And for my household, the hard thing is that Lisa has been diagnosed with cancer, and in the coming weeks she begins chemotherapy.

On a personal level, you know how hard it is to watch someone you love face something you can’t fix. It’s one of the most difficult things God gives us, and, to be honest, I’ve wrestled with fear more than I expected. And God, in his grace, led me to Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you.” And what we have needed most is that first line: “I am with you.” We aren’t strong, and we don’t know how this will end, but we know who is holding her.

With that in mind, the first thing I’d ask is that you pray this verse for us. Pray that God would strengthen us, help us, and hold us up, especially on hard days.

Second, I love how this church loves people. Right now, we need that love. And here’s how you can love us well. Lisa’s cancer is serious, but it isn’t all of who she is. So, when you see her, say hi and talk about everyday things. Talking about the cancer can be overwhelming for her and our kids, so give them space to decide when they want to. Please allow our kids to be kids, without asking them about their mom or how they’re doing. And if Lisa goes quiet or doesn’t answer a message, please don’t take it personally.

Third, if you want to serve us or hear how we’re doing, Val Curiel is our point person. She’ll know how we’re doing and what we need, and we’ll need you. So please go to her.

Last, for a season I’ll be a little more behind the scenes. Lisa is going to need more of me, and I want to be there for her. I love being your Lead Pastor and being there for people, but I won’t be the first call for now. Our elders and staff are ready to care for you, and I’m grateful for them. For anything pastoral, please go to them or the church office.

Thank you for loving us like you do!
Todd

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. - James 1:5-8

Hear ye, hear ye! Ye Olde Trunk or Treat returns October 24 from 4–6 PM!

My family and I have hosted a trunk for the last few years, and every time we do, we leave so encouraged. There’s something really special about spending an afternoon meeting families, connecting with people from our church, and getting to be part of welcoming our Simi Valley community.

Some years we’ve kept our trunk pretty simple, and other years we’ve gone a little overboard, but honestly, the trunk itself isn’t what makes it worth doing. It’s the people you get to meet and the joy of getting to create a fun, welcoming space for families together. I’m always surprised how into the games the kids get. I had a simple beanbag toss last year that kids kept coming back for.

This year, expect decorated trunks, medieval games, plenty of candy, and lots of opportunities to connect. Come for the candy, stay for the friends, and invite someone to join you! Beyond just decorating a trunk, intentional presence is a way to serve. We’re not inviting our city to a one-time event, but to a community (that’s you). So commit to being there, and be on purpose about how and who you talk to!

And if you’ve ever thought about hosting a trunk yourself, there’s still time. You can sign up on our website under Events. We’re also collecting candy donations in the lobby for anyone who would like to help make the night happen.

Hi Cornerstone! I am Peyton Cogswell. When I was younger I told my mom I believed in God and we prayed and I accepted Jesus as my savior. Growing up here at Cornerstone with all of these amazing people has also really helped me in my walk with the Lord.

First I wanted to thank my whole family, my parents, my grandparents, my great-grandparents, my aunts and uncles who have always taught me to look to the Lord and always trust in him. Thank you. I love you all. I also wanted to thank Sadie Buonauro. Sadie has always been there for me and she always inspires me to love Jesus more. Thank you so much Sadie. I love you. And lastly, my small group leader through all of Middle School, Jenn Burkhardt. She pointed me to what is true and helped me in my walk with the Lord. Thanks Mama Jenn!

I grew up knowing the Beck family so when Reis passed away several months ago I was very mad at God for taking him. I took his death really hard and I just kept thinking why did God have to take him? I struggled with this a lot, facing that our days are numbered. But this made me realize that I wanted to proclaim my faith and make each day count. So with that being said I am here to be baptized today because I know and believe that God is Lord of all, He died on the cross for me and you, rose again and ascended into heaven. That is why I want to be baptized and share with the world that I am fully committed to you Lord! Thank you God and thank you Cornerstone. - Peyton Cogswell

Good morning, everyone. I'm Larry, and I'm thankful to be here at Cornerstone Church as I prepare for my baptism. This moment is very special to me, and l'd like to share a bit of my journey.

I grew up in a tough environment with an alcoholic father and a hardworking mother who raised me and my sister. Losing my dad at just 40 years old, when I was only 16, had a profound impact on me. As I grew older, I often felt lost and alone.

For many years, I sensed something was missing. Even with the support of my wife, who has been my friend since our teenage years, I struggled to find fulfillment. It wasn't until about a year ago that we realized faith and a relationship with the Lord were what we truly needed.

As we began exploring our faith and learning about Jesus, things started to change inside me.
I discovered that the emptiness I felt could be filled with love and purpose, and I wanted to become the person God intended me to be.

Today, I'm choosing to be baptized as a public declaration of my faith and commitment to a new beginning filled with hope. - Larry Russell

Hi everyone, my name is Michael Condon.

I was raised Catholic, but I didn’t really practice my faith or have a close relationship with God.

My fiancé wanted to find a church where we could grow closer to God, and that’s how we found Cornerstone. Since coming here, I’ve realized that I don’t just want to call myself a Christian—I want to actually follow Christ and have Him be a part of my everyday life.

So today, I’m choosing to be baptized as a way of showing my commitment to follow Jesus.

I’m really grateful to be here, and I’m excited to see where God takes me on this journey.

Thank you - Michael Condon

“I’ve been to Cornerstone since I was a baby. I’m 8 years old now and as long as I remember I’ve known about Jesus Christ. Last summer one of my friends from Sunday school got baptized. I wanted to get baptized but I did not know what baptized meant. So we left it alone for a while and then last Sunday they taught about baptism so here l am.

I know we are born sinners and that none of us can be perfect, but God is the only one that is perfect. Jesus came to earth and then he died on the cross for us and went to the tomb and 3 days later he rose from the dead. Jesus died on the cross for me.

I want to get baptized today because I want you all to know I believe in him and want to trust in him all the days of my life. I know baptism is not my ticket to heaven, but it is a step of obedience.” - Ivy Foote
